My money's on Mike Seidel. Anyone want to bet against me?

Everything Else TWC / What is this?
« on: March 22, 2008, 01:32:54 AM »
I'm guessing Kyle probably knows. (This displayed at the end of Day Planner today when they were trying to source Viz 200.)

From the looks of it, I'm going to guess WeatherPro based on the titles of the files listed. Let's see if I'm right or not.

With Mike many miles away at the Grand Canyon tonight, Kelly Cass made her debut on A&B tonight alongside Steph. After her stint on EE a month ago, it seems that Kelly now has the "Primetime fill-in blessing". Previously, Carl was the only one who could fill-in on either show.

Does anyone know who did PME today? Carl? Dave? Betty solo?

Everything Else TWC / Was that an HD camera?
« on: March 18, 2008, 03:13:52 AM »
Right now, they're showing a report with Dr. Forbes in the back of the Abrams & Bettes/Weekend View studio, and the camera right behind him appears to have an HD logo on it. Interesting that such a camera would be in the old building.

Everything Else TWC / Fix the audio, please.

Whoever is in master tonight really needs to realize that Sharon's mic is much louder than Rich's mic right now. Every time Sharon comes on, I have to lower my volume to avoid having my ears blown out, and every time Rich comes on, I have to turn the volume back up just to hear him well.

OCMs & Personalities / "Yeah, let's do that."
« on: March 16, 2008, 10:57:09 PM »
If you've ever watched EEWC with Rich and Sharon, you might have noticed that they both frequently say, "Yeah, let's do that," when being tossed to from the other partner. I wonder which one of the two came up with that phrase. Either way, it's interesting how one of them managed to influence the other person like that by causing him/her to use this phrase.

General Discussion / Hey, did you guys know this?
« on: March 16, 2008, 02:11:32 AM »
Did you know that Kristin Dodd's normal partner on Weekend Weather Center started out as a parking lot attendant in Washington D.C.? People would pull their cars into the lot, look at his nametag, and say, "Hey Carl, park 'er!"

Yes, I made that up.

Everything Else TWC / Shorthanded much?
« on: March 16, 2008, 12:08:45 AM »
Even after putting in three straight hours this early evening on PM Edition, Adam Berg is back for the late night tonight to greet his gang for EEWC.

On top of that, Mike Seidel recorded tonight's weather.com forecasts and immediately bolted out the door to cover the tornado damage downtown. Having a few OCMs off combined with special coverage on a weekend is never a logistically friendly situation.

When Dave was doing a radar update today, things got a little crazy when Skytracker zoomed into the Seattle area instead of South Carolina, where Dave wanted it to go. His priceless reaction happens around 1:10 in the video.

Everything Else TWC / The OCMs take over Weekend View (for a day)
« on: March 15, 2008, 07:13:15 AM »
With Dao Vu off and Julie Martin downtown reporting on the tornado damage, Weekend View is being hosted by just the OCMs for the first time in the show's history. Sam generally seems to be playing Dao's role while Bill seems to be handling most of the maps thus far.

At the start of A&B, Steph pointed out that her and Mike decided to match tonight by wearing orange, which, as they pointed out, also matches the set and the graphics. They also gave the viewers a little FYI that Heather and Marshall match outfits every morning on Your Weather Today.

Everything Else TWC / Larry McReynolds stops by TWC's studios
« on: March 08, 2008, 12:12:33 AM »
This morning on Your Weather Today, it was time to fire up the ol' Celebrity Forecast segment again when Larry McReynolds, former crew chief and current analyst for NASCAR on Fox, came on the show. During his Fox broadcasts, he has often spoken of his liking of TWC and especially Jim Cantore, so I'm sure this was a treat for him.

BTW, did you notice that Larry, not Marshall, is the one exactly matching Heather's outfit today? I wonder if this was a part of some wacky plan...

Everything Else TWC / David and Jeffaroo battle the bad scripts
« on: March 06, 2008, 11:19:39 PM »
It seemed like David and Jeffaroo were plagued by a number of bad scripts today. First, there was the typical situation where the Weather Center script still uses the name "Day Planner" because no one changed it from earlier in the day. At the bottom of both hours of Weather Center, Dave was left with the responsibility of dealing with that issue at the end of the teaser, and the way he handled it was quite interesting. At 2:30 CT, Dave recognized that the name of the show on the script was wrong, but instead of saying "Weather Center," he said "PM Edition" instead. Then, at 3:30 CT, he said "Weekly Planner" instead of "Day Planner"

The script got really weird at 2:55 PM CT at the end of the first hour of Weather Center when Dave began to read, "Dave Schwartz and Jeff Morrow are up next...Hey! That's us!" Apparently someone loaded up the script from the end of the last shift, which was three hours prior to that event.

Notice that Dave is much better off just winging the show rather than using a script? For instance, he sounded much more comfortable at 3 PM CT when he went off the script and introduced the show with, "...there's some good news with the drought, Jeffaroo! Hit it, boys!"

When TWC made the horrible decision not to preempt long-form programming during the tornado outbreak on 2/16, I sent them a respectful but scathing feedback form about that decision, and finally on Thursday, I got a personal response from Chris. At least they took the time to personally respond.

Thank you for contacting The Weather Channel Interactive.

I will forward your email message, expressing your dissatisfaction with our
decision not to pre-empt our long-form programming in order to provide viewers
with updates on any current or potential severe weather outbreaks to our
producers and programming directors. It greatly concerns us that our failure
to deviate from our regularly scheduled programming during inclement weather
situations had such a negative impact on your viewing of The Weather Channel.

We are always happy to hear from our viewers and hope you will continue to
watch The Weather Channel for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Chris Hoitsma
