General Weather Chat / TWC is under a tornado warning right now

That always must be interesting for them...

Local Forecast / HD LF issues
« on: May 20, 2008, 01:44:53 AM »
I don't think there's a thread like this here, so here it is.

The HD LF just failed massively during the 12:38 AM CT LF. Remember how the SD one froze the weekend before last? Now the HD LF is frozen on the national outlook for Tuesday (from the 1-minute flavor). Two minutes of staring at the national map is always fun. I wonder if they have someone monitoring the HD LF right now to spot this problem.

Programming and Graphics / Abrams & Bettes format change
« on: May 19, 2008, 09:59:44 PM »
Tonight, it looks like Abrams & Bettes has switched back to the format where there's a long segment at :40 and two short segments at :50 and :54, much like the current YWT/EE format. I didn't see the first part of the show, so I don't know how they're doing the Weekly Planner now, but the :54 segment is now nothing but a check in with the EE crew and a preview of the next edition of A&B. It kind of destroys the discussion buildup that used to lead into the EE toss, so I wonder if there's going to be less discussion between the A&B crew and the EE crew with the new format.

OCMs & Personalities / Yet another anchor swap?
« on: May 17, 2008, 08:06:43 PM »
Today, Carl and Kristina were back together again on Weekend Weather Center while Adam is working with Kristin on PME/EE. Also, it looks like Cheryl Lemke has permanently assumed Swizzle Stick's old job on weekend mornings & Mon-Wed. morning fill-in.

Quite interesting to see Carl and Kristina back together again. If this holds true, then this swap has managed to reunite two classic anchor pairings that were destroyed through previous switches; I'd say it's for the better.

I watched FO today and saw a new segment called "My Weather Outlook w/Jen Carfagno" in which she talks about a specific weather-related issue (today's was about the sun heating up cars and the danger of leaving children in cars). Does anyone know how new this segment is or if it just started?

Everything Else TWC / New map title bars!
« on: May 15, 2008, 07:02:06 PM »
During the live teaser for A&B, they just used a satellite map of the West, and it was using the new HD title bar, which looks much like what we've seen in the satellite HD LF/HD LF preview video.

The progressive series of ads for the HD studio launch continues today with a new ad directly promoting the studio itself and showing video of rehearsals. After seeing the real life studio in action, I must say that it does look quite beautiful.

As you'll all see later when you wake up, the YWT color scheme will remain largely the same from the looks of it, but the logo itself and the employment of the color scheme will be completely different.

18 days!

OCMs & Personalities / Samantha Mohr - new co-anchor of PM Edition?
« on: May 13, 2008, 07:03:17 PM »
At the end of the show tonight during the check with Mike Bettes, he welcomed her and said it's a nice "change." The way he said it, it sounds like Sam may be there to stay. Did Kelly go back to being Bill Keneely's partner? That would certainly make for an odd twist of events.

If this is true, then PM Edition really is a revolving door these days.

OCMs & Personalities / The plot thickens?
« on: May 12, 2008, 05:02:37 AM »
This morning on First Outlook, it's Jeff Morrow along with Jen Carfagno, who claims to be in for Kim Perez. Did she misspeak, or did Nick Walker wind up departing from the show instead of Kim?

OCMs & Personalities / An event six years in the making...

"Good morning and welcome to First Outlook; I'm Cheryl Lemke."

OCMs & Personalities / More on Bob Stokes's departure?
« on: May 03, 2008, 01:50:19 AM »
On one of my YouTube videos:

There's a user who claims that there is more than meets the eye on Bob Stokes's sudden departure this past winter. I wonder what that's all about.

I just happened to be checking the weather.com bios, and I noticed that Jennifer Lopez's name has been removed from the OCM list. I guess she has already broadcast her last show. :( I wonder if Carl and Jennifer both purposely wore black for their last show together this past Sunday; it sure seemed that way. I'm really going to miss Jennifer.

At the same time, Alex Wallace's bio has been added to the OCM list, so I'm thinking he might be appearing on the air with a permanent spot. Honestly, if I had to guess based on what we now know about Jeff going to First Outlook, I'd say Kim Perez will take Jennifer's old spot alongside Kevin Robinson, and Alex Wallace will work alongside Vivian.

If my prediction holds true, I'm really not liking the way the pairings are going these days. I never thought I'd say that Rich and Sharon would be the best thing TWC has going for them. (not counting Abrams & Bettes since that's a little different from normal shows)

Something just seems different about the production tonight, and what really seems to be hinting toward a full controlled broadcast is the usage of the EE-specific live bug at the top of the hour, which was quickly removed. Nevertheless, over the past 11 months of the current Master show production format, not once have they proven the ability to use show-specific live bugs. Master Controlled PME weekend and live editions of EEWC have always utilized the regular blue live bug.

Also, for the top of the hour teasers, they used the one-line lower thirds that "erase" the text and type out a new line when the headline changes between videos. Master has never proven the ability to use that type of L3, either. Master always generates a new lower third for each headline. Also, the fluidity of transitions and usage of music (especially at the top and bottom of the hour) is something that would normally be seen in full controlled productions only. Either Master has stepped up the game in a big way, or this is a full controlled production tonight.

OCMs & Personalities / Wanted: Jim Cantore's voice
« on: April 22, 2008, 10:58:14 PM »
Jim is losing his voice tonight. I hope he feels better soon.

Why does it seem like people on the EE crew only get sick when someone is on vacation already? (Alexandra this time) Now they have to pull out the Carl/Kelly phone if Jim doesn't get better.

OCMs & Personalities / Your Weekend View Today?
« on: April 16, 2008, 07:14:40 PM »
Today's Your Weather Today featured the Weekend View team of Bill and Samantha; I don't believe I've ever seen that before.
