You don't use filters with cable modems.

Really? I have my new cable modem hooked up to a coaxial splitter, and it works fine (it also worked fine when we had cable before).

I noticed I'm not getting as good of a signal strength with my new wireless card (I'm at "Very Good" but with the old one it was almost always Excellent), but it doesn't make a big difference.

OK, our cable service is now hooked up. Here's the speed test:



So essentially I have double the download speed with cable.

The lady that came by to install it was very nice, and helpful. We got everything installed in about an hour. We have a Scientific Atlanta cable modem, and we have a Linksys wireless router connected to it, so we've got wireless connectivity too. Overall, everything is running smoothly now.

I think Stephen has been listening to Gil too much. The speed's that Gil supposedly gets are VERY unusual. An average cable internet connection runs at about the same speed as DSL-somewhere between 2-6mbps, depending upon how many other people on your connection are also using the internet.

Also, another interesting (but I bet unknown) fact is that cable TV use also takes away from your speed. So, if there are 15 other families on your connection, and all 15 are watching T.V. and 6 are using the internet...well, you can probably see where I'm going with this.

But anyway, Stephen said he's used cable internet before and was satisfied, so I'm sure he'll be satisfied now too.

Of course, I'm not listening to Gil too much. And yeah, like I said, before with Cable internet I had no problems, and the speed was excellent, so I'm sure that's going to happen this time, too.
