I don't like OS X, because unlike other OS's you can't change the fonts and the colors of the user interface.

What I actually did (I hadn't seen your post beforehand) was performed a clean install of OS 9. It seems to have resolved the issue, as it wiped away all the extensions and other settings from 8.6. :sunglasses:Glad to hear!
Ugh. Suddenly Mac's are eerily reminiscent of PC's.Believe me, you don't experience that kind of trouble in modern Macs.
Unfortunately, the computer did not come with the 8.6 CD. So I suppose I'm stuck then, because I can no longer get into OS 9 at all, extensions or none.Try starting the Mac while pressing Command + Option + P + R, and wait until you hear the startup chime for the second time before releasing the keys. That will reset the PRAM in the machine, and that might get it back working.
Is there any way to revert back to OS 8.6? I'm getting a different error message now, something about a bus error. I'm just going to assume that I committed some kind of cardinal sin by not turning Norton off before installing OS 9, as the instructions say to do.If the computer came with the OS 8.6 CD, then yes, you can revert back to it, but you'd have to reformat the HD first.
Only problem is I keep getting some kind of error about Norton Antivirus committing an error and to restart and hold shift to turn off extensions. Guess I've gotta find some way to get rid of Norton.Go to the Apple menu, go to Control Panels, and open the Extensions Manager. Look for (and disable) anything related to Norton Anti-Virus, and then restart. You should be able to now start OS 9 with extensions enabled.

BTW, I was incorrect about the computer's age. it was actually manufactured in 1999, which would make it somewhere around 9 years old.
Question for you guys: how do I get the Mac on the net? I have my LAN cable plugged into it, but it isn't able to connect to any sites. I access the internet through a LAN. Can the Mac be configured to access the net using the same router my PC's use?
Actually, you may be able to run OS X on that Mac with the help of XPostFacto. They have a chart which details which OS X versions can run on certain Mac models. Right now the 6500 is unsupported, but they say they're working on it.
