It is a waste if you don't plan on using it for professional use. You don't need a quad-core processor to perform everyday tasks.

Why is the screen so big?

Like I told you, the Mac Pro is for professionals. The big screen is needed, especially for video editing, because professionals tend to do more (specifically, at the same time) than the average user.
