Local Forecast / IntelliSTAR v2 minor update
« on: February 07, 2008, 06:57:09 AM »
Apparently, the IS was sent an update sometime last night or early this morning, because this morning, I noticed all the text (except for the title bar and the map text) has been changed from blue to black, making it easier to read the text. Anyone else notice this update on their IntelliSTARs?

General Discussion / AIM 5.9 on Windows Vista
« on: December 26, 2007, 10:05:44 PM »
I tried to download and install AIM 5.9 onto my Vista laptop, because AIM 6 sucks. It did install, but it won't run. I double click the icon and nothing happens. I tried using Compatibility Mode (which never works for anything in the first place), same thing. I tried this fix: http://messageboards.aol.com/aol/en_us/articles.php?boardId=564524&articleId=13&func=5 and it's not working either. :censored: Is there any other way I can get AIM 5.9 to work with Vista?

EDIT: Fixed. :)

General Discussion / Santas warned 'ho ho ho' offensive to women
« on: November 18, 2007, 07:19:45 PM »
Quote
SYDNEY (AFP) - Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.

Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.

One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.

Starting this thread again since we seem to have gone back to an extremely old backup back when the Front Porch was still open. Hopefully, we can get everything restored on the site and everything on the forum fixed very soon. :)

General Discussion / Your software preferences
« on: September 21, 2007, 08:44:27 PM »
This thread is for you to post what software you prefer: browsers, email, OS, etc. Please provide a short explanation of why you prefer it, as well.

I'll start off:

1. Browser: Firefox. I've used it since version 1.0-ish, and I've loved it ever since. Way better than IE, it's safer and secure, and it's faster. I only use IE for the occasional website that refuses to cooperate with Fx.

2. Email: Outlook Express (XP machine). I may setup Windows Mail on my Vista laptop, but I haven't gotten a chance to.

3. Operating System: Windows Vista. I've had it for about a week now on my new laptop, and I really like it. It runs very fast and it's very stable. The UI is quite nice too. I have the Home Basic version, so I don't get to experience the Windows Aero interface, but still, the regular Vista interface is quite nice. B) I still use XP on my desktop PC whenever I'm not using the laptop.

What do YOU prefer?

General Discussion / Laptop Battery Life
« on: September 13, 2007, 07:43:39 PM »
I noticed something weird with my laptop that I got yesterday. The battery doesn't hold a charge for very long at all. It'll last about an hour, and then I have to hook it up to my charger to charge it up again. <_< Why does it do this, and is it possible to make it last longer?

General Discussion / What internet connection/service do you use?
« on: July 27, 2007, 09:47:11 PM »
Since the topic of internet connections has been brought up in the Front Porch quite a bit recently, I thought it'd be a good idea for a new poll.

Right now, I'm using DSL through BellSouth/AT&T, and as you may now, it SUCKS! Thank god I'm switching to Cable (with Cox) in a week or so. I've had it before, and it's WAY better than this crappy service I'm on now.

So, what do YOU use?
