General Discussion / Re: Traffic lights

The Clearview typeface that is common on the newer signs had wormed its way into Arizona over the last couple of years.

Interstate is a knockoff of the original FHWA typefaces (which have a different weight system)

Actually, in certain areas, the lack of Current Conditions makes sense because this is one STAR for a whole metro area.

Oddly enough, there's even a non-suburb on the Phoenix map (Komatke; it's on the Gila River Indian Community that abuts the Phoenix area to the south: if you come from the south on I-10 to Phoenix, it SLAMS into you.)

Here are some things TWC should do:

1. Run the LDL during commercials and make the commercials smaller.
2. Make the 36-hour forecast a more graphical product...think the old Extended Forecast. No Vocal Local.
3. Stop promoting an entire infomercial of sorts in your Lot8s openers.

Mostly scrambled in these cases.

Have they changed the flavors?

Mine has Phoenix suburbs - and Komatke. (It's on a large reservation that borders Phoenix to the south. Driving along I-10 from the south in, Phoenix SLAMS into you with a freeway and then the start of suburbia.

Yeah...this is definitely going to be a time warp for some of the longtime fans.

I will promptly create an article on Wikipedia for this one.

I see more out there in MN alone too...scrambled TWC broadcasts. Maybe there are more 4000s in hiding in podunk towns?

Running tab: K26DG Granite Falls, K34HO Willmar, K50DB Alexandria, K39EK Columbus NE are the ones I can know of.

We need Chazz to investigate, don't we? XD

They've been on the air since 1988, I should point out.
If you want to get really technical, the earliest would have been 1989 (unless it was part of beta testing).

I meant K34HO, not the 4000.

northstar.com is a website with all sorts of broadcasting information in the Upper Midwest.

They also have a TV captures section.

Now, what does this have to do with The Weather Channel!? Well, in Willmar, Minnesota, there's a UHF cable system (cable channels over-the-air). (They also have something like that in Duncan, Arizona.)

K34HO carries The Weather Channel and is its only actual TV station (not owned by it, obviously).

Anyways...http://www.northpine.com/broadcast/captures/mn/k34ho.html

I found that today. It's DX shots of K34HO from June 2007, and right during the Local Forecast, too!

I think it's an undiscovered 4000, but given that it's Chazz country, he might have found it first. But I don't think anyone's seen IMAGES of that 4000.

Of course, two years have gone by, but considering how this puppy works, I'd think it's still there. 20 years and we have 4000s still cranking out graphics.

Everything Else TWC / Re: New slogan for The Weather Channel?
« on: May 10, 2009, 01:04:31 PM »
It wasn't on the NBC survey I took a few months back.

It was the first NewsVIPs survey with anything to do with TWC. They did want a new slogan...

"Weather...it's what we do." was on the list.

Others were the Keeping You Ahead Of The Storm, Bringing Weather to Life, No Place on Earth. There were others that I don't remember.

22329 is being buggy right now. It won't cue a single Local Forecast, but it will do anything else TWC wants it to do.

I've had satellite LFs since 10 last night at least...22329 is acting up. It'll cue everything but the LF. Headed off to the Star Team to tell them.
