TWC Fan Art / Re: The Weather Channel Reimagined
« on: December 20, 2008, 03:02:32 PM »
A new FAQ for a weather.com product concept:

Q. What is MyCast™ by The Weather Channel®?
A. MyCast™ by The Weather Channel® is a new way of getting your current conditions from weather.com®. Like the Local on the 8s® on TV, MyCast™ by The Weather Channel® displays your weather information neatly and in various slides.

Q. How do I use MyCast™ by The Weather Channel®?
A. Using MyCast™ by The Weather Channel® is simple! Just go to your normal page with your Current Conditions and click on "MyCast".

Q. How is MyCast™ by The Weather Channel® laid out?
A. Once at the MyCast page, you'll see the MyCast display and "« Previous Page" and "Next Page »" links. Clicking on the links changes the slide displayed.

The slides are in this order:
  • My Current Conditions
  • Currently in My Area
  • Currently in My Region
  • My 36-Hour Forecast
  • Tomorrow's Forecast (daypart)
  • Tomorrow's Forecast (regional)
  • My Extended Forecast
Q. What about severe weather?
A. MyCast™ by The Weather Channel® will display a triangular icon with an exclamation mark on it near the weather icon in the Current Conditions slide if a weather alert is active. Clicking on this icon will take you to an index of weather alerts, from which you can read the individual statements.

Q. Why did I design MyCast?
A. MyCast is intended to cut down on the clutter on those current conditions pages (you have to scroll down just to see the 36-Hour Forecast!). It also coordinates weather.com with TWC on TV and is the video forecast for rural areas.

Q. I have a suggestion for MyCast. How can I submit it?
A. If you have a MyCast concept, just PM or IM it to me and I will definitely take a look.

Improved Blowing Dust icons:
(the blowing dust layer is from the NBCU icons, which were taken from a guy in Poland!)

You do know TWN routinely has changed up that video background? (the misalignment is actually done on purpose!)

Actually, there were some changes relating to weather bulletin displays and formatting in 2002 and headend ID changes in 2005.

I've added information on this to Wikipedia, as this is rather major.

We had an accident with the STAR and the only thing left was the PMX machine from Canada...
...by the way, if you want these puppies (there are 20 to 30 of these in 128x128 format), ask me. They're from the WeatherEye widget for the Mac. I've done a TWC widget modernization with the Show Package Contents like I did with the icons here too.
All TWN/MM copyrights acknowledged. These icons have been used since the winter of 2001.

My guess is that this happened during No Place on Earth because it doesn't have weather.com in Akzidenz-Grotesk Extended like was customary between 1998 and 2005. (weather.com also is www. at the front, another tipoff to the time period.)

Everything Else TWC / Changes at TWC: Right or wrong?
« on: December 16, 2008, 10:21:21 PM »
From 1998 to this current day, we've watched TWC and its progress. While some changes are great, there have been some flaws, especially after NBC took over ownership of TWC.

Michael and I have decided to write a letter to The Weather Channel expressing the last decade of problems at The Weather Channel and suggestions for the future.

We want your help to make it possible and to include a wide range of suggestions from many members of the TWC community. Please submit ideas by Dec. 21 to Michael or Raymie on the TWC fan forum of your choice.

Thanks, Michael and Raymie

TV Guide CHANNEL is owned by a different company. I was replying to Mike to clarify the statement.

TV Guide itself is owned by News Corp.
