No video, but 12 WX+ still churns on. The title bars are the same as those on WCAU as of now.

Last night, I tune to TWC and see The Week Ahead and hear commercial audio. Then the LF starts over again.

It was a mess...

Re Gil: I knew that. I believe the ob site was O'Hare or Midway by the time Meigs Field was closed.

The Meigs Field "scrap memory" is from about 2000-01, possibly 2002.

Re Gary: Oh yeah, that's a common abbreviation, like Fly Cloud Arpt (which should be Flying Cloud Airport, not just Fly Cloud Airport). Some parts of TWC used APRT (early 90s), AP (GRTR CINCINNATI AP) - likely the byproduct of a name limitation on the 4000.

One of my other odd memories: I'd remember the tagging products with a name and address and wonder "Why don't other networks do that"? It might have been in the XL days because the typeface was very narrow and not like the Interstate weight they use now. Yamaha had a tagging product out at that time.

Later, I'd learn more about exactly why, of course.

Then there's how the weather icons looked. The thunderstorm icon I called "the baker's cloud" for whatever reason, the Daypart/Extended Forecasts would look as if the cloud was bouncing between Partly Cloudy and Mostly Sunny, and I vividly remember the tone of Vocal Local. Then again, I do remember parts of the text forecast narration, so some of this might be from my early IS.

Does Andrew have 1997-01 icons?

I do not have a way of reaching him.

Ooh...a PMX emulation. The background's great. The proper typeface would be Helvetica or a variant of it for doing PMX.

Both the XLv1 and XLv2.

I also encountered an XL(v1?) in Chicago, with Meigs Field as the observation site. The Latest Obs had lots of "Arpt." sites and I thought it stood for "Apartment". Whoops!

What about Weekend Outlook? Was that canceled? I see two Sunrise Weathers in the weekend schedule you posted.

I am proud to announce QuickCast, my set of 89+2 weather icons for all applications.

What's great about QuickCast?

It has legibility. I've outsmarted The Weather Channel by making icons in a flat style that also are easy to read.

They're scalable. The default size of QuickCast icons is 160x160, much larger than most icon sets (128x128).

There's 89+2 of them. I went through my XL icon and other icon set collections to create a comprehensive package that trumps even respected icon sets like the IntelliStar 2006 package - including modified icons.

What's the +2? The 90th icon in QuickCast is a No Data icon. Like the other 90 icons, it visibly communicates the lack of data, with a greyscaled sun and the words "No Data" at the bottom. The 91st, "Weather Alert", indicates an active weather alert.

It's even so comprehensive that most weather.com-compliant icon sets for Samurize only have 42 unique icons. Over half of the icons in QuickCast aren't even used for weather plugins!

QuickCast. Weather icons you can always turn to.

If you are interested in viewing a sample, hop over to The Weather Channel Reimagined. If you want to order the full set of 91 QuickCast icons, contact me and I will send you each icon in 160x160 PNG format.

Local Forecast / A faint memory of my XL?

I seem to remember Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson was on my Latest Observations list. What's even funkier is that I seem to remember it as part of my XL. This Latest Obs list had Tucson, Flagstaff, Luke AFB, and a few others as I remember it - a lot more regional than what I get now, a list of Valley suburbs. My memory seems to show it in a light yellow text...like XLv2.
I also seem to had really liked an LF song from September of one year...I should go back through the playlists of 01-03.

I know. I didn't intend it to be realistic but an example of my NEW ICONS.

QuickCast is the name...and 90% or so is done. I could release it in this state.
