Flow and incident narration was disabled shortly after the overview maps were introduced. They were put back in place in markets where the overview maps were removed.  Now that the overview maps are gone, I wouldn't be surprised to see the narration for incidents and flow come back.

wait, are the overflow maps gone for good? i thought it was only temporary.

i liked the overflow map feature. :(
Yea its a shame they are gone for good. I had hoped to have them for my area at some point

They needed to go out here. Major freeway growth since 2003-04 meant highways weren't coded properly or didn't show up. There were many Unavailable stretches, highways coded as major roads without color, and one stretch of highway that ended before an actual interchange. I even gave the notice to the STAR Team: they were added late, though.

The maps were outdated even when they came online for us, essentially.

Yes, it has been resolved, apparently...

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/generalities/weather_channel_dish_network_strike_deal_162448.asp?c=rss

"A spokesperson for Weather declined to comment on how much more the channel was getting in affiliate fees (the network was previously receiving approximately 11 cents per subscriber, according to SNL Kagan), but noted that the new agreement includes a second channel, interactive TV features and mobile applications. The second channel will be located next to Weather on DISH's lineup, at channel 213, and will feature localized weather reports. It will also be taking the place of DISH's Weather Cast service, which the satellite operator was threatening to replace Weather with on its lineup."

The exact opposite of what was needed, but the fact that Charlie wanted to play hardball should be a huge wake up call for the channel.

Lame video trying to use the sadness and destruction of the past tornado outbreaks so they can make money

In other news...they didn't forecast it, the NWS did.

If any time, maybe Mountain or Pacific. Dish Network's HQ and uplink facilities are in Denver and Cheyenne.

20
If we estimate Dish is 14 million subs and we know TWC just became the second cabler to pass the 100 million mark behind TBS...

that is just under 3/20 or under 1/6 of subs to lose.

But as I said, those who play Charlie Ergen Curveball always surrender.

21
Well, they also say that their contract was coming up and there were rate increases at stake:

"Our contract with The Weather Channel is expiring and they are demanding unreasonable contract terms that would impact customer pricing."

Most people who play Charlie Ergen curveball lose the game and get back on Dish.

Explanation for the signal troubles from page 372? That satellite problem with AMC-11 and Galaxy 15.

http://www.multichannel.com/article/452747-SES_To_Move_AMC_11_Away_From_Intelsat_s_Zombie_Satellite.php?rssid=20059&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MultichannelBreakingNews+%28Multichannel+News+-+Breaking+News%29

But don't worry, it's getting fixed. Some other major basic cable nets are on AMC-11 too.

Everything Else TWC / Re: New Graphics and Icons

The big problem with the 2006 icons was they did not scale to anything. They were a pain to make out - and as TWC expanded in mobile and Web, that became a problem. This update mainly tries to improve that issue. Indeed, this seems to be a revision to the hardest to read - precipitation and sun.

Seems a bit Web 2.0-ish for me.

Chris Warren is still in New York. He made a Morning Joe appearance on MSNBC this morning.

0176 is the official way to make a degree. 167's result is more like an exponent.

0176- °
167- º

Alt+0167 is a masculine ordinal indicator; for example, 5º in Spanish is equivalent to 5th in English. (There's also a feminine ordinal indicator - e.g. 9ª).

But laptops can be complicating with special characters - copypastecharacter.com can be helpful at times.

Everything Else TWC / Re: An earlier WeatherPlus?

Turns out they used two logos - both designed by John Christopher Burns (a legendary Atlanta designer known for his work for television stations around the country and the world, especially Gannett stations, and more recently KOIN, FiOS1 New Jersey, and WKBN). (They also had their weather design contracted out to him - the Logos and Custom Weather Design sections do feature some of his work for WeatherPlus).

Yes. I stopped using it though because it broke down on me.

For the Driveway Heat ad tag, it wanted me, an Arizona resident, to go to a Walgreens in Savannah, Georgia. The LFs still are Phoenix, at least.

There are times I try to tune into TWC to get a black screen. The entire channel - even STAR output - doesn't show. It's quite a serious issue. (And there's no TWC HD on this system.)

It does seem to be horribly glitched and I wouldn't know why. It's only TWC, too.
