General Discussion / Re: Songs that played on The Weather Network

NM was dominant in the early days, then DeWolfe and finally a variety of production music.

I have family in Chicago, so I've seen CAN-TV...what a time warp!

The guy doing a lot of TWC's promo work of late is Jim Cutler. He's got a long string of VOs behind him. Hear his voice regularly on ESPN Radio.

The TWC Mac Dashboard widget still has them at 32x32. It's also a veritable time warp.

NFL Network is so tied in litigation that it's a mess.

And TWC would never drop Cantore for the sake of its brand equity. Cantore has become synonymous with TWC.

Everything Else TWC / Re: The September 2003 Relaunch
« on: March 17, 2009, 11:21:45 PM »
Biggest relaunches of TWC:

1. 2008: New studios, a new LDL, and HD in one day!? Whoa!
2. 1996: WYCATT needed to stop meowing, and the 1996 modernization coupled with the 1997 studio move did just that.
3. 2003: Brought TWC into the commercial age, plus the IS in 2004.
4. 1998: A very nice graphics refresh and my favorite piece, plus the 1999 debut of the XL.
5. 2005: Yeah, a new logo was big, but nothing really changed to me.
6. 2001: Evolutionary, not revolutionary.

1. Tom Moore appeared last night.

2. Tweets from Squizz and Martin aired back to back on the last full control hour at :45.

I agree, Lightning.

The problem with the newer icons is that for the average drive-by viewer coming to get the forecast, they're VERY hard to read.

Yeah...it was a mess on Tuesday again. Trammell at the top of hour 1, PME for the Weekly Planner, and DP music going to breaks.

Just now on PME: "1 DEGREEE" in a graphic.

Local blooper: playout of a second local avail fails and we see the national commercial.

Does anyone know if the XL had a PM clouds icon?

There is an AM Fog PM Clouds...I made my own version of it. I've only seen it ONCE in an LF, from around Christmas 07 (the Hannibal-Quincy STAR).

jtmal, I saw that too. I didn't know it was the DP opener until I heard the bells at :55 after.

I saw the PME goof, too, and I was like "uh...you're a few hours too late/early!"

The Trammell at Ten (it was 10pm by me) really caught me by surprise. I was hoping for some sort of goof, and I got Trammell Starks cameo #2.

Also, when they started hour #2, they started with the segment that aired at #1/:30.

Yep, that's a Weather Star XL. That's only the second EVER clip of TWC Latin America I've seen, and it's the first clear one from the Brazilian variant. There are files talking about patches to an XL Latin American version.

And Trammell Starks!?

Programming / Re: Favorite classic slogan

No Place on Earth. At that point, TWC rescued their flagging 5-year-old graphics package and did a 180-degree relaunch that wouldn't be seen for another 11-12 years (the 1996-97 relaunch and new studios were a 180-degree relaunch, as was the HD relaunch).
