It's sort of a hybrid, including elements visual elements from late 1992 through about 1999.

It was using the new flavors, but with the old text TCF. I think that's the only one and only a few seconds of the scroll was on there. The next TCF is on December 5th and the return of the icon version.

Local Forecast / November 1992 Travel Cities Forecast
« on: December 03, 2011, 01:32:09 PM »
It's been established that the 4000's travel forecast changed from the original text version to the icon version on November 21, 1992. I had a recollection that it changed back to the text version for a short time after that date and yesterday ran across footage that confirms it. When the icon version debuted, there was a problem with that segment not advancing to the next screen once it's time was up. My guess is they put the text version back up while fixing that issue. Also, New York is labeled "NY City" on the initial icon version, but later appears as "New York", probably when the text version was taken back out again.

Local Forecast / Re: Custom photo background on WS 3000
« on: August 28, 2011, 07:54:42 PM »
From the video we have, they did the backgrounds for a short time, six months or so at the most (summer 1986 - winter 1987). Can't recall the exact months without looking at the footage. There's a black border around the text when the solid background color is turned off, but it didn't make the white text significantly easier to read.

How about "Goin Under" by Devo or "Surrender" by Harry Miller?

That last one with James Spann is a mosaic image.

The radar loops in the two Dave Schwartz videos are WSI mosaics. If that first video is from 1993, the radar network was mostly WSR-57 and 74s with some of the WSR-88D units online by that point (possibly included in the mosaics). The second video would be entirely comprised of data from the 88D.

The radar images from Intellicast have looked the exact same way since that website came online (1995?) and there's better ways of looking at the data now (they also delay the images).

Cincinnati Bell's IS2 (28765) has been down since last Friday. There was green and purple screens on Friday, but no local weather information since then.

The first pic is from Kavouras, the second is a WSI mosaic. They could dial into the WSR-57 or 74 radars in the first example (both radars were equipped with the same digitizing equipment). In the second example, WSI would connect to the radar sites, composite the images on a single map and perform quality control (ground clutter and other non precipitation echo removal). When the WSR-88D radars came online, the mosaics contained data from all three radar models for a few years.

From the footage we have, TWC began using mosaics in mid 1989 on-air and discontinued using the single site images later that year. They also used MDR (manual digitized radar) images in the 80s, which was a very low resolution picture (the radar operator actually had to enter this in an alphanumeric format of this based on a 20x20 km grid overlayed on the radar screen).

Here's two MDR images (numbers represent echo tops):

When will Cincinnati Bell  offer   channel 5.2   me tv from WLWT Cincinnati ?  I hear Time Warner and Insight have it  ..And if you have a converter box you can get it without having cable .

I get it on channel 23 (it was Weather Plus until July 1st). Not sure if it's the same channel number for cable ready.

The 1991-94 version used Caxton BT for the city font.
