Has anyone with Dish gotten video of this new channel or the new interactive forecast feature?

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: May 08, 2010, 01:57:31 PM »
Not that I agree with the decision, but isn't running the movie not much different than years past when they'd run their other primetime shows during severe weather events? Albeit those didn't take up 4-5 hours of time. I can't remember all the instances where this happened, but my earliest recollection was November 10, 2002 when they were running "Atmospheres" at 5, 8 and 11 PM on the weekends (in reruns, the show was out of production). There was quite a tornado outbreak that day and TWC did not preempt that show on that Sunday afternoon and evening. I remember complaints about that being deleted on the old weather.com message boards.

By the way, they were using the dual-feed here in Cincinnati last night.

Local Forecast / Re: WeatherSTAR I/II/III Unit?

In addition to the usual input/output jacks, they also had a jack for the input of an external radar display.

I don't have any pictures of one, but I'd assume it was close to the case size as the 4000, probably the same width (for rack mounting). FYI: the STARs I, II and III all had 3 MHz Intel 8085 processor chips, while the 4000 had an 8 MHz Motorola 68010 processor.

Anybody ever heard of Toure? Apparently he makes appearances on MSNBC. Do a Google search and see what comes up...

So far, they haven't promoted it like the earlier movies last fall (almost no results on Google).

TWC Today News / Re: Local Across the 48s #6 Winter 2010 DELAYED

We are on for today. REMEMBER TO RECORD THE SEGMENT AFTER THE LOCAL FORECAST

Do you want the whole segment until the next commercial break? I see the updated bar during the national segments...literally takes up the lower third of the screen.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Cincinnati Bell Fioptics

Not having cable/satellite wasn't that bad. I can receive all the over-the-air TV stations in the Cincinnati and Dayton markets. Better than back before cable when only about 5 channels would come in clearly here.

I was going to say the differences in brightness were probably caused by different tuners or settings, but I see the last two videos were both recorded by Zach.

I will say that the picture quality I've seen so far surpasses what I had with Dish Network (compression artifacts) and far surpasses Time Warner's analog (ch 2-75).

I had Cincinnati Bell's fiber optic tv/internet/phone service (branded Fioptics) installed yesterday. Thought I'd post a video of their Intellistar installation.

They also offer TWC in HD in the 500s channels.

WLWT is known for having a revolving door of personalities. Kevin will be the eighth chief meteorologist at the station in the last 15 years. The previous chief left after working a split shift (morning show + 5:00 & 5:30 news) for around six months. According to the press release, Kevin will only be working the evening shows.

Everything Else TWC / Re: An earlier WeatherPlus?
« on: November 04, 2009, 04:14:36 PM »
I remember the talk about "WeatherPlus" back in 2000. Their service was available on cable in several European countries at the time. The July 4, 2000 came and went with no launch in the U.S. (far as I know). No idea what happened to the company (www.weatherplus.com redirects to www.weather.com). In their press releases back then, they promised to provide audio narration of the local forecasts...I recall this was a reason why TWC pushed to get "vocal local" on the WeatherStar XL in March 2000. You can find some old discussions about them on Google Groups from 2000/2001.

Programming / Re: Classic TWC Question
« on: September 02, 2009, 10:01:30 PM »
To answer the original question, TWC was always a 24 hour network. Some cable systems would use split channels, where TWC would only air for part of the day, then another channel would be shown the rest of the day. This probably happened with cable systems where they were airing more channels than they had room for.
