Local Forecast / Re: Trying to track down 2 songs from 1991 April 17

1st: Skywalk - Jesse James

3rd: Lonnie Liston Smith - London Interlude

I saw the video before it was removed. All I can say is, as I've said before, nothing surprised me about them (NBC run TWC). By the way, according to NBC programming execs, 2+2=6.

Here's the ID spot you're talking about:

Weather Always Turn To - Alternate.wmv

I know which one you're talking about. I'll see about putting a clip on youtube.

Local Forecast / Re: Stock footage used in Local Forecast intro? (1991-95)

Here's a picture of the intro for reference. The topography seems to match.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Cable Boxes

Here's a picture of the 8540 and some of the screens. I get the same blue Atlanta Scientific boot screen in the above posts.

My provider is Cincinnati Bell Fioptics. Boxes are the Cisco (formerly Scientific Atlanta) 8540 HDC and 8640 HDC. Those are both fairly recent, but the software looks like it was made in the 1980s.

That's probably her. I hear Declan Cannon works for the NWS in Duluth now.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Redesigned website coming soon!

That always will be the case. Online forecasts are just generated automatically. Plus you have to take into account HiRad and other manipulation TWC does with their weather data. NWS is still the best place for weather info

I think they were running a separate database for the website's forecast data back in the 90s/early 2000, at least that's what I recall them saying.

I haven't checked other cities, but they seem to have a serious warm bias with high temperatures here. They've been putting highs of 95-98 degrees in the days 2-4 forecast a few times this summer, but that's way too hot.

HiRad is another issue. I will always prefer real observations over interpolated ones.

I remember there being issues with the forecasts on the early versions of the website. There seemed to be a mismatch between what was shown on the website and what was on tv. I'm mainly talking about individual location forecasts (by city or zip code).

OCMs & Personalities / Re: OCM Layoff- Bill Keneely

I agree with Rich Johnson on this one. They're removing the "established" names that were associated with the "old" weather channel and replacing them with new younger faces.

I just so happened to hear "Touch" by Boney James tonight. That song was originally done by John Klemmer back in 1975 (on the album of the same name) and was used on the local forecast back in 1988 and 1989.

Local Forecast / Re: Channel Weather by Bobby Love

Flood, Water, Air and Warm Front were used in 1998/99. "Pleasant Days" was used from Channel Weather II in 4th quarter 1999.

Try "Language of the Heart" by the Ernie Watts Quartet
http://www.twcclassics.com/music/listen.php?file=local-forecast/music/Ernie%20Watts%20Quartet%20-%20Language%20Of%20The%20Heart

That song has drums in the beginning, main instrument being the saxaphone.

There's two songs from that time frame by Tiger Okoshi that have a trumpet:
