Banned because that makes me like both songs that much more.

I guess it wasn't meant to be.  This makes the theory that the 2-minute locals were some kind of fluke that much more believable.

Additionally, we've got the same old playlist from January (or possibly December) from what I've heard so far on the LFs.  There was a time when I looked forward to the first day of every month due to the chance to hear a new playlist, but that's gone by the wayside.

If they're going this route, I have a great idea for them.  How about if they do a "profession" show about meteorologists?  It could be a show where you would get to see real OCM's do their thing.  Maybe it could even be live.  So, you would actually get to see the meteorologists do their job providing weather updates for weather that is going on as you watch.  That would be the perfect reality show!  :itsok:

The LFs I've seen today are back to 90 seconds, even at times ending in :28 and :58, with the daypart forecast but no radar.

On the music front, I agree that instrumentals should be used for the LF, particularly during severe weather.  Now, for the record, I'm not anti-vocal music.  I listen to vocal music as well as instrumentals, but the vocals are more likely to put me to sleep.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

I had a chance to hear the severe weather beep that comes with a warning on TWC.  It was serious but cool at the same time.  Even the OCM (Paul Goodloe I think) was talking about the beep.

So much for the different direction some of us hoped the channel would go.   It looks like they're doubling down on what they're already doing.  At least it doesn't look like we're giving up any more weather coverage if the premiere times are the normals for the new shows.

I saw a 2-minute LF at 10:28 pm ET last night.  It was the first time I had ever seen the daypart forecast on satellite.  I just hope it wasn't only because of the severe weather outbreak going on yesterday.

79° and mostly cloudy, with winds S at 9 mph.  This is almost like last year's La Niņa winter.

I heard "Let's Stay Together" by The Rippingtons on Sonic Tap Smooth Jazz last night (May '90 playlist).  Apparently, they play quite a few former LF tunes.

Although I guess I never watched it when it was really good in the 90's, I almost cry when I think back to the good times I had in 2003-2004 with TWC.  I would make sure to set my alarm clock to a time ending in 7 (one minute before the LF) so I could wake up and hear the LF music and catch a peek at the day's weather forecast as a bonus.  It's true that longform had already started by then in the form of "Storm Stories," but I would take that over any of the varying forms of "Lifeguard or Coast Guard [insert state]" that are on the channel today.  It seems like the forecasts were even more accurate then, despite older technology.

Just so cable companies could have something to put on the higher tiers, I think NBC/TWC could come up with a "Weather Reality" channel showing all of the longform programming for higher-tier packages and leave The Weather Channel as a weather-only channel for the lower tiers.
