General Discussion / Re: Gas prices in your area

It's $3.17 here, with summer prices to stay below $4.00.  Anything over $3.00 is still too high IMHO, though.

I hope Nintendo's not turning into EA, but this kind of stuff here is so much like something they would do.  EA has been known for shutting down online play for older Madden games, for example.  I just hope Nintendo's not following suit.

Wait, they're getting rid of their wifi service?

http://thenextweb.com/gadgets/2013/04/12/nintendo-will-be-closing-six-wii-channels-and-the-wiiconnect24-service-in-japan-on-june-28/

If I understood the above source correctly, it's only WiiConnect24 (an service that allows connectivity even with the system off) and six of the Internet Channels that are getting the axe.  I didn't see anything about online gameplay or general Internet access in there, so I assume the Wii will still be able to be used for those purposes.

I found it interesting but stark that the Wii weather channel is one of the ones that is being gotten rid of.  I hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come...

How about all of these bugs that the warm weather brings out?  Aside from the heat and the risk of tornadoes, this is my least favorite part of spring and summer.  The mosquitoes are starting to rear their ugly heads, unfortunately.

81 °F and sunny.  Winds SE at 12 mph, gusting to 21. Things have really heated up today.

I wonder if it would be possible in theory for a winter storm name to be retired, like hurricane names, e.g. if the storm caused many casualties.  In addition, I wonder if TWC has six separate lists for winter storms much like the six lists used for hurricanes that are used every year in six-year cycles.

If I had to throw out a guess as to why TWC is doing this now, I would suppose that it helps them to be able to cover these storms extensively.  I feel that TWC anticipates and enjoys covering hurricanes, and they want to be able to keep the excitement going during the winter months when there normally aren't any.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

Next thing you know, prison and/or crime shows will pop up on TWC.  I can see it now: "Weather and Crime," a show that will detail how weather conditions influence crime rates and types.  (I hope I'm not being too realistic here (  :noexpression: ) )

Oh, man, I hate those!  :hmm:  Once in a while, I get foot cramps, but it's almost always during the day rather than at night.  The only thing that helps for me is walking.

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Sandy

As monumental and destructive as this storm truly was, I'm not surprised Sandy was retired.  Hopefully, we won't have any hurricanes get that bad this year.

37 °F and partly cloudy, with no wind.  Rain is being reported in the area.

Today's a good weather-watching day.  I'll get to keep up with what's going on, but I might have the right motivation to see what's happening down at TWC, too.  At least I'm not in the red area of that map, but I'll probably still hear some thunder.

So, it's real then.  That's a bummer.   At least I got to see a few K-flavors and 2-minute flavors in the last few months.  I guess I had better enjoy the 60-second locals while they're still around.  :itsok:  Since we're dropping 30 seconds each time the LFs are chopped down, the next step after :30 is :0.

Local Forecast / Re: Songs you want to hear again on the LF
« on: April 08, 2013, 08:15:56 PM »
In reality, I would probably like to hear pretty much anything from the 2000-2009 lists.  No joke, it's gotten that bad.  :noexpression:  In addition to those I've already named, though, here are a few more that I liked hearing on the LFs:

6. Birks Law - Spyro Gyra
7. Guyute - Phish
8. The View From Here - Artie Traum
9. The Bridge - Brian Hughes
10. Pacific Coast Highway - Eddie Reasoner

Localonthe8s, is that a 30-second LF you've got there?  I certainly hope it's not coming to that, but we've gone from 2 minutes to 60 seconds, so this is the next likely step.

Right now, I'm hearing "The Bright Side" by Dave Koz on Sonic Tap Smooth Jazz. (Sep. '04 list)

EDIT: Last night (04/10/13), I heard "Keep Your Head Up" by Andy Grammer on KVIL 103.7 FM. (Jan. '13 list)
