Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: June 01, 2013, 09:41:15 AM »
I've never been a fan of Chris and I most likely will never be due to how annoying he is

Why is it that TWC gets rid of all the good talent (I still haven't forgotten about Nicole Mitchell, Dave Schwartz, and Heather Tesch) and they bring in annoying OCMs?  People say that smartphones have brought TWC's ratings down, but I would have to think stunts like this have done a number on them as well.

Local Forecast / Re: May 2013 Playlist

I'm disappointed but not surprised in the least.  It sounds like there won't even be anymore of Ryan Farish on the list if what they say about the instrumentals is true.  Even during severe weather I suppose we'll hear vocal music if that pans out.

Now, I'm not opposed to the music that they've played this year in and of itself, as some of it is good music.  However, there should be a distinction drawn between "good music" and "good music for LOT8's."  The two are not mutually inclusive IMHO.  It makes me wish that there was a way to set up my DirecTV box to take the audio from Sonic Tap Smooth Jazz whenever a LF comes up.  It wouldn't be perfect, but it may well be better than what we have now.

On the topic of the May playlist, I wonder if it will continue after the Storm Alert-esque mode ends.  Will it instead be time for the June playlist?  I note that I'm making this post on the first day of a month.  I used to look forward to the first of the month back in the day.  Not much reason now, though...

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Mike Bettes in Tornado Accident
« on: June 01, 2013, 09:14:51 AM »
Storm chasers are literally chasing danger, and yet they escape so many times.  Since they are experts, they usually know when to run.  Unfortunately, they got caught this time.  This is bad, but at least it appears that Mike will be OK.  I hear about cars being thrown in tornadoes, but I don't often hear about people being in the cars that are tossed about like toys.

I find myself killing time on Google Maps and Google Street View a lot.   I take it in cycles, though.  Right now, I'm not going on it that much, but I can easily spend half a day on it if I'm in the right mood.

Congratulations, Zach!  Have a good time at your graduation, because you've earned it if you've gotten this far.   Good luck!

Why not launch a show that shows TWC at its finest?  There could be clips of severe weather coverage, classic LOT8s, and even a little history on the channel here and there.  The OCMs we love from the past would be in these clips forecasting the weather.  Of course, there would have to be a disclaimer that none of the clips are related to current weather events.  As the channel thins out things like live weather coverage and LFs, though, this disclaimer will become less necessary.

It would be one golden hour a week of TWC at its best.  You might say that TWC would never go for it, but if it were packaged as another hour of longform, then they just might take the bait.

Oh, Jesse, I'm sorry about your loss.  :(  There's not much that can really make this any better, but you have my prayers and best wishes.  Take your time on all of those responsibilities you have.

I'm proud of TWC for stepping up and covering this devastating tornado instead of showing longform.  There may be hope yet.  Although the ratings may not be as high as they have been in times past, they still show that TWC can be relevant.

Severe Weather / Re: EF5 Tornado Tears Through Moore, OK

I always take these types of events seriously, but I've been to Moore several times in years past, including once after the 1999 tornado.  It was especially gripping to see the devastation near the areas I visited.  The thought of the lives of children being tragically cut short is heartbreaking.

So, how will this be suited to the people that have satellite?  I mean, I know satellite viewers can get LFs now, but still.  Speaking of LFs, it sounds like we'll be getting glorified squeezeback LOT8s permanently.  Translation: no music.

As far as longform goes, it looks like some of it doesn't even involve weather (a fishing show?).  You even have shows that contradict weather tenets we've been told for years.  First, they tell us to go inside if you hear thunder, but then they throw a show at us with people that play with lightning.  This makes last year sound good.  Even "turn around, don't drown" will go out the window at this rate, with the hypothetical premiere of "Car Floaters".

But ask anyone who watches TWC for weather they rather watch the coverage even if they don't live in those affected areas.

This.   I tell you, I can't believe what I've seen from this channel in 2013.  This is just like a news network showing an old war movie rather than showing breaking news about an actual war that might be going on.

 :hammer:

Don't tell me they did this again!  If TWC's going to do this, why not just split-screen the longform vs. the live coverage?   I'm afraid they're really letting people down this year.  Previously, the problems included OCM layoffs, sloppy graphics, poor music, or 60-second locals.  Now, it's gotten worse as they forget what the "W" in TWC stands for.  Will it be the same thing during hurricane season?  I would say the whole longform issue is drawing to a head at this rate.  It's crossing the boundary from annoying to dangerous.
