General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove
« on: October 03, 2013, 07:23:06 PM »
Good to see you again, Zach.

This is the time of year that I start paying attention to the weather again.  It's not as boring or predictable as it is during the summer (sunny and hot every single day with little to no variance).

The GEICO camel/Hump Day ad.

I sort of liked it when it first came out, but it's gotten old fast.  Geico has had a history of making some of the most annoying commercials IMHO, with Progressive not far behind.  State Farm even got into it a while back with the whole Aaron Rodgers/"Discount Double Check" thing.  What is it with insurance companies and silly commercials?

The stove is back, yes!   I'm enjoying that slight crispness in the air that comes at night.  The days are still getting into the 80's, though.

Forecasting / Re: Accuweather launches "revolutionary" 45-day forecasts.....
« on: September 18, 2013, 06:16:41 PM »
I just got my eyes on one of those forecasts, and it disgusted me for two reasons.  First of all, there were weather conditions, highs, and lows listed for over a month out.  As if that weren't bad enough, it was nearly the same forecast every day.  Partly cloudy on most days (a hedge if you ask me), with mid to upper 80's for highs.  The lone exception was Halloween, with a high of 59 °F.  I dearly hope that doesn't pan out, because it would mean a very warm start to fall.  That would be the other reason I'm disgusted.  I'm actually hoping it's wrong.

I'm back, and I would be available to play if there were enough other people who were also able to do so.

I'm back!  B)  I was busy and didn't have much time to go online or watch TWC, but my schedule's cleared up.  Cold weather will show up soon, too (I hope  :bleh: ).

I would consider thinking about either a new or a decent used car in the near future when you can afford it as 11 years is getting pretty old for something more serious that could break down.

I used to be a fan of paying off cars and avoiding car payments at all costs, but I must agree with this now.  Although I've never hung onto a car for that long, it seems like things start going wrong after 100,000 miles or 5-6 years.  The warranty's usually out by that point, too, so all of those repairs will be out of pocket and it may turn out that a car payment won't be any more expensive.

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Central 2013

No way.   No, I'm thinking it's the kind of forecast that might be called a "wish-cast" by some local meteorologists.

Will we actually go below average for the year?  That would blow the active season prediction out of the water.  If we get only one Atlantic hurricane, major or not, I predict TWC will go all out covering it.  I've always thought hurricanes were their primary focus, but they've been deprived of it this year.

General Weather Chat / Re: Farmers' Almanac Winter 2013-2014 Outlook
« on: August 25, 2013, 10:55:32 PM »
Doesn't the Almanac predict a cold winter every year?  This mirrors the above normal hurricane forecast we get every year.  Then again, cold weather is my thing, so I can at least root for it even if I don't believe it at all.  Even less likely IMHO than the cold are the unusually wet conditions predicted for my region.  It's quite dry with burn bans galore in my state, which is a trend over the last few years.

I may have to skip Round 5, since my schedule for that week precludes me from playing every day.  Sorry.  :itsok:  I should be available for Round 6, though.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: August 24, 2013, 08:17:23 AM »
So does this mean they will finally understand that they've been heading in the wrong direction? Hopefully they'll see that and fix a few things. Like Long Form hours or maybe LOT8s?

I'm sure TWC will discover that the audience sentiment corresponds to what we (part of TWC's audience) have already expressed about TWC's direction.  I don't think they'll listen, though.  So, nothing will be fixed.
