Programming and Graphics / Re: New Graphics coming to TWC
« on: April 09, 2013, 01:38:18 AM »
If TWC really wants to show more weather information why don't they bring the LDA back?

New HD LDL/Sidebar

It defeats the whole purpose of having HD cameras when the image is compressed.

Their graphics are getting worse and worse. I really can't stand that whole 3D junk they're doing. Probably because they go into overkill with it which turns me off.

WSI is owned after all by TWC and after their acquisition of Weather Central, NBC provides graphics for probably nearly 95% of local affiliates. The graphics upgrades aren't that much different than what your local TV stations are upgrading to. Granted TWC has an exclusive design set but the core concept isn't that much different.

Former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, the Iron Lady, passed away this morning at the age of 87.

She was such a brilliant woman. I'm sorry to hear of her passing.

Everything Else Classic TWC / Re: Debut of TWC
« on: March 21, 2013, 10:21:49 PM »
I disagree. Current, yes. Varied, no. Bright and upbeat, not always.
But isn't it varied? They have jazz, country, pop music and i've even some classic rock. I don't follow what they play very closely so perhaps I'm not on the same page.

Landmark is a top notched company and continues to operate a fine media empire from my hometown. Frank Batton was a genius in building both the company and TWC.

Notice what was said about the music. It was their intent to keep it upbeat, varied, current and bright. One might argue that TWC is simply returning to this way of thinking.

Awesome pic!!

Front Porch? How about the front field? :D

Took this on Monday. It was in the high 70's and the weather was just PERFECT to lay on the grass and read a book. Will be doing that again today after psychology class.

Oh btw, about antiviruses in the PBS (was late in replying): have y'all tried Avast?

I haven't adjusted to the change yet. It was weird seeing the sun still blazing at 7pm last night, it feels too early to be that light that late for some reason. I guess I'll get used to it in a week or so.
Thankfully my spring break started at the same time as the change so now its actually enjoyable. I like having the late light, mostly because I wake up so late :P

General Discussion / Re: Six Strikes Plan
« on: February 27, 2013, 04:53:33 AM »
This has been going on for many years already. Nothing really new except it seems that the rules will be applied the same across all ISPs. Don't download illegal content and you shouldn't have any concerns. Even if you are downloading illegal content you get several warnings.

As far as privacy concerns and "rights" you really don't have any as a user. ISPs are commercial companies that you have a contract with to provide a service. The TOS you agree to when you signup already states you cant use the service for illegal activities and also give them a right to monitor usage. Throttling has been going on for years as well. Nothing new there either. Certain content (ie Netflix, torrents, etc) is treated with a lower priority, especially during peak internet hours.

I don't think you really have to worry about someone in an office pouring over every bit of data you transmit on the web. Mostly what happens is a copyright holder finds the node/tracker that a torrent uses and then collects the data on every IP that it connects to. Its really easy and anyone can see that information when sharing files online. They then send a cease and desist notice with your IP info to the ISP who then warns you or in this case gives you a strike.

Finally back at home from the ER. I had to have my appendix removed. Most painful thing I've ever experienced. Glad to see you all are holding down the fort. :)

Could also be due to the possible phasing out of the full-screen LOT8s products. I mean christ every few months they're cutting back on them more and more.
Not quite yet.

There are plenty of vhs to dvd converters out there. I would imagine they would have some kind of automatic tracking to compensate. That would be the easiest option as you would simply hit a button and the conversion is automatic. If you wanted to directly put them on your computer (remember you can always ripp the DVDs) you would need a video card hooked up to a VCR. It would be much more time consuming. Otherwise there is not many cost effective solutions. People aren't exactly looking to solve issues like this so the only products that might be out there are professional equipment for the media industry and that could range into the thousands of dollars.
