Everything Else TWC / Re: What's Next?
« on: July 06, 2008, 11:00:29 PM »
I hope:
TWC will steam online
I fear:
WX+ will become the new TWC
I think:
LO8's will be presented by NBC affiliates or TWC will take over WX+

General Discussion / Re: WeatherScan XL Emulator Project
« on: July 06, 2008, 10:55:40 PM »
when it becomes public, do we have to stream? i kinda find it unfair to those who only have one pc *cough* me *cough*...i've kinda noticed everyone here has 2+ computers .

if so, then i won't be interested in downloading it.
Well as I mentioned you could use a virtual pc so in a sense you would have two PCs. At the moment there are no plans to make the emulator public. I would have to get back to you on that. :)

Thanks Stephen for moving this, I just sent Gary a PM to do just that.  :sunglasses:

General Discussion / WeatherScan XL Emulator Project
« on: July 06, 2008, 10:38:57 PM »
I just wanted to let all of the members of TWC Today know about the ongoing WeatherScan emulator project. Here is a little background information.

In 2003, Brian (cc17926) began to create a WeatherStar Jr. emulator. That quickly grew and became the WeatherScan XL. It uses several servers to download and compile custom maps and data for each individual user. Currently it is in a limited release state meaning it is not fully public but open to those who meet the requirements. It is asked that a person have a dedicated system to run the emulator and to stream it to the internet. Recently users who have powerful computers and leave them on 24/7 have been allowed to use Virtual PCs to run the emulator. Two members of this forum currently are using the emulator, Stephen and Mike.

At the moment sign ups are on hold while a big update is prepared. This update will feature a weather alert system complete with the classic XL scroll and alert tone along with a weather bulletin page. They will resume soon so of you meet the requirements please head over to the forums and post a request to join the project.

Feel free to post comments, questions or suggestions here or on the forums. You can see any users stream by clicking on the links in the portal. My personal stream is: mms://72.218.133.188:1102
Portal: http://weatherscan.ath.cx/
Forums: http://weatherscanemu.12.forumer.com/
Thanks Gary for letting me post this :)

EDIT: Fixed stream link.

Everything Else TWC / Re: NBC Buys TWC!!!
« on: July 06, 2008, 07:45:04 PM »
I think my biggest concern would be a merge between the Weather Plus and Star/Scan systems. NBC has also been known for sticking their branding on everything as well. Landmark is cutting some jobs here in Norfolk and thinking about selling our newspaper, the Virginia Pilot.  <_< Oh well, they say change is good.  :hmm:

General Discussion / Re: "A New Direction" for Price is Right
« on: July 05, 2008, 11:55:34 PM »
When Bob left the show The Price is Right started its decline. IMO changes to the show itself will only push viewers away. I predict we will see the end of this show in the coming years.

So you want them to upgrade to an IS? Can't say I know many people who would say that. Most would rather see the XL.  :twothumbs:

Cant argue with you there. While visiting some friends on the Outer Banks, NC I was able to get a few clips of the XL down there.
