Help and Support / Local Weather Data Temporarily Unavailable
« on: October 31, 2008, 10:24:17 PM »
When you see this dont panic. Its normal and it happens to everyone once in a while. It simply means the emulator did not get the data it needed. Sorta like when the intellistar says Temporarily Unavailable. This could be from several reasons.

1. Firewall or security program is blocking the emulator from getting data
2. NWS or other data source is down
3. Issue with your network
4. Slow connection- could not download all the data within the required time

If this problem persist for OVER 1-2 hrs then post here. The emulator downloads new data every 15min so in most cases it will go away at that time.

Is this program better for XP or Vista users? I have XP
It should work fine on either. If you have the choice go with XP.

~sigh~ This is NOT an error!

If the IS or XL fails to receive data it displays temporary unavailible. The emulator is doing the same thing. There was a problem downloading new data.

It is one of two problems:

1. If you are using vista you need to make sure you run as admin.
2. A network hickup somewhere on either your computer or the source of the emulators data.

I should also add that I think everyone should be grateful this emulator is public in the first place. Frowny smilies are not welcome and I ask that people keep more of a positive attitude with the emulator. Remember I can disable anyones account if I deem it is needed

Help and Support / Re: Extended Forecast Issue
« on: October 31, 2008, 07:52:05 PM »
Florida is picky. The NWS forecast office publishes data differently and as a result the emulator cant read the data. Just keep trying different areas until you get one that works.

Help and Support / Re: Weather Alert Scrolls and Bulletin
« on: October 31, 2008, 02:56:20 AM »

(dont mind my comical-ness with the message, the software used allows for making your own NWS messages for testing sake)

instead to type a big discussion, ill make points of updates:
-currently supports the severe thunderstorm watch/warning ldl display
-plays warning tones.
-shows headline text on "bulletin" frame (if available)
-within 10 seconds of a NWS issued message, emulator will display ldl
-the ldl and bulletin elements will be kept alive for the entire life of the message, until expired or cancelled.
-will change text if an updated text is made

todo: the rest of the warning/watch/advisory messages, should be easy from here on out. also will add routine to prevent the emulator from crashing on internet failure. (thinking of temporarly stripping the upnext playlist to nothing and playing a special music playlist until data is available again).

Help and Support / Music Setup
« on: October 31, 2008, 02:39:39 AM »
Here are the steps to change the music on the emulator.

1. Navigate on your computer to the following folder
C:\wsxl

2. Now click the WeatherScan folder and then the music folder.

3. Place any music files you want the emulator to play here. They must be non DRM mp3s.

4. Right click the list.m3u and open it up with NOTEPAD.

5. Follow the same format you see listed. For example if I have "awesomesong.mp3" and want the emulator to play it, I add it on a seperate line in notepad and type in EXACTLY how the filename and FILE EXTENSION is spelled. An easy way to do this is to right click on the song and select rename. Then when the text is highlighted use Ctrl. C to copy it and then paste it into notepad. Then add.mp3 if it is not already added.

5. Save notepad and your done!

Note For Vista Users
Vista likes to be difficult and sometimes wont let you edit files in program folders. To get around this, copy the file to your desktop, edit it there, save the changes. Then move it back to the program folder and overwrite the file there
Post any issues or questions you may have here.

Help and Support / Re: Setting Up The Configuration
« on: October 31, 2008, 02:28:36 AM »
Important Update
If you do not live in an area near the coast or an area that supports traffic, YOU MUST enter a valid area for the coastal forecast and traffic before you can build your config. You can then use the "Package Selection" option in the configuration to opt out of those sections of the emulator.
