TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Say It Ain't So, Time Warner!
« on: December 31, 2008, 03:39:53 AM »
I have seen this happen soo many times before.  Here is how it goes.

1. Viacom wants XX more money
2. Provider doesnt want to pay
3. Viacom says we will shut down our stations on this date.
4. Viacom/Warner tell the public so there is an outcry
4. Viacom and Warner both say to public we want to make a deal
5. At the last minute, with the public getting frantic, Viacom lowers price to X and Warner accepts.

This has happened so many times this past year its almost predictable. These things just make the public hate their service provider and the networks even more. Time Warner wants to jack everyones bill up $3 and cut a ton of key stations. Viacom wants $.25 more per subscriber.
Quick Fact: TWC charges around $8.6 per subscriber.

"Bad news, Time Warner Cable subscribers. The cable carrier notorious for resisting HD expansion until a competitor rolls into town is getting ready to pull all 19 MTV Networks channels (MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and Comedy Central just to name a few, presumably including the HD versions). Viacom has just unleashed a scathing announcement that calls the carrier's refusal to pony up "outrageous," and publicly pleads for its bigwigs to reconsider and open up the checkbook. In essence, Viacom is asking for a fee increase of just under $0.25 per month, per subscriber -- which, admittedly, sounds rather high given the lack of MTV-related content that's a) watchable and b) in high-definition -- but TWC is straight-up refusing.

Now, we've no qualms with a provider balking at price increases, but while it's planning to let content vanish from lineups, it's also raising monthly rates by $3 in Raleigh, Orange County, Los Angeles and New York City. Ahem, TWC -- could you bother justifying these hikes by allowing us to keep our content? And don't even come at us with the "we just added more HD!" comment -- after all, you blast us everyday with ads proclaiming that your HD "is free." [Engadget]

Before the site went down there was a notice that there would be no new streaming until 1/1. So I doubt the site going down has anything to do with that. There was never a mention of the sitting being shut down for ANY length of time.
Well, I talked to Jeremy, and he jsut said that he closed it due to this madness... and a vacation...
I think thats a load of BS after the email I got.

Videos on Youtube are still there. Just hidden

"This video is private. "

Also something interesting, I thought for the hell of it I would email the Domains by Proxy guys asking about the site and here is the response I got.

We recently received a complaint from a copyright holder regarding SILVERSTAR8.COM As such we have forwarded the claim to the registrant and taken the appropriate actions.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

And try some CREATIVE thinking. The name and music are all linked to TWC in their own way.

I have a feeling that higher powers than just this topic helped close the site.

Guess what? Somehow, all of the SS8 Beta Testers are normal members, and the site is DESTROYED. I get aton of 404s while looking through the site tabs :furious:
Hmm i wonder if it was the result of complaints sent to the host

Nevertheless sorry you all had your bubble burst. Now you have to face reality and the true nature of the people your working with. Trust me though I dont think for a minute that any of you beta testers would have been doing anything for a long time. The release for that thing has been pushed off further and further and in my opinion its so poor in quality (the program) that there is little to test.

I cant even comprehend how Andrew is the editor "in chief" of his high school newspaper. Guess all the smart people dont go to the special ed school :rofl2:

Ok ok that was a bit harsh but my point is Andrew seems to be a poor choice to be an editor of anything.

« on: December 28, 2008, 12:17:28 AM »
I noticed that ther have been a vast increase in topic titles that dont really give readers an idea as to what the topic is about. There are about three topics in the past three days with the title WTF! Just think that we should all make a little effort to title topics a little better.

Kyle hit everything right on the head.

Its nice to pretend and have fun with this so called project but your asking for trouble when you go around asking for donations or saying we want to get real cable companies to use this.

I swear if that picture is posted again my computer screen is going to crack :rofl2:
