Well, it was inevitable, but today my laptop finally committed suicide. All my USB ports simultaneously failed, my Wi-fi reciever off-lined itself, and now Windows refuses to bring me to the log-in page. I'm using my back up PC now.
That sucks! :(

I just want to cry. This week sucks. I wake up this morning to see that skywarnal.com is suspended due to overdue payment (in case, is not true, even the hosting provider says that I paid, their system is screwed up. A severe weather day. SKYWARNAL offline. Nobody from the hosting service online. I'm tired.
Just one of the many issues with running a website. TWCT has been canned twice now I think for something like that. Thankfully it was quickly resolved without much interruption in service. Glad its back now

  • Mike, I tried to install the Google Talk and Skype profile field mods a few moments ago, but they both failed due to some file compatibility issues.  I don't think that I'll be able to fix them.
Yes thats why they were never put back. Plus they caused a few nasty issuse.

I'm going to leave the Member Map button up as I would have to completely remove the member map mod to do it, and I feel there are some members who still use the map.
That stays

I wonder why Bill's forum has such a problem with spam bots? I ran one for several years and spam bots were almost a non-issue.
Well when you run a forum using software that is nearly 7 years old things happen. I think 2.1 was released way back in 2005.

1) The current restrictive measures in place are due to spambots and certain other miscreants who have tried to evade bans via proxies and the like. I wish these weren't in place, but unfortunately the alternative is letting these guys get through. As a lot of you may remember, we once had a case where a spambot signed up and began sending virus-laden URLs via the PM system to Taiganet users. Bill would prefer to err on the side of caution rather than risk this happening again. Yes, I hate that it has false positives too, but for the vast majority of board users, it isn't an issue. And there are pretty easy instructions to follow if you need to be manually whitelisted, whether it's because you don't have a forum account or because you've run out of whitelist attempts.
Nobody is arguing that there shouldn't be security measure to prevent this. The argument is that Bill has the forum on such a lockdown that its nearly impossible to get into. It's like the TSA. There is a limit to how much someone is going to put up with just to view the forum. I am curious as to why this is such a problem for a forum devoted to a Weather Channel emulator. I remember seeing people like Henry post gloating images of "trolling/spamming" of the Taiganet forum and several other names I recognized who seemed to approve. I guess the childish nonsense like this has to be accounted for.

Anyway I appreciate you posting here Centurion Wind. Thanks for clarifying a few issues.

This is getting very annoying because now I am getting messages to provide the emulator for download since people can't get to it. I don't know what Bills problem is but he needs to start understanding how to work a forum and manage it properly. It's not rocket science

I'm not sure how much different (internally) the IS2 is from the IS, but it doesn't seem like it should be this problematic. To me, it seems like it's very unstable or some of the units are defective.
Think of it like Microsoft deciding that instead of building Windows 7 on top of Vista that they would start from scratch and use no code from Vista. The hardware and software are completely new here. Not to mention this is the first product of its kind to do this in HD. With the XL and IS at least there were some similarities. I would imagine the XL and first IS versions were just as problematic
And if I recall, Frank Batten mentioned the numerous headaches and "growing pains" with the XL. Just give them some time to work it out, guys.
That reminds me...The XL and IS were both partner projects. Meaning both TWC and a separate company worked on the coding. The IS2 is all in house from what I heard

Guys, you can't expect the IS2 to be perfect. It, just like the Intellistar or any other STAR, is prone to outages and glitches so we will just have to deal with it.
This is a different. Members are welcome to mention when their unit is out or not operating properly.

For some reason I cant get passed the unban thing. Perhaps I forgot my username. Not sure why this seems to be so hard for Bill. There are many forums out there and those that are kept up to date and have the built in security settings activated are just fine. I am not going to waste my time with this
