Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

I'm surprised they didn't do that this time.
Live/taped events would have actually been more interesting than a million reruns of some Olympic related show they taped.

Heres to a bad ass winter

Looks like this verified! Were there heavy rains though is southern FL?

After looking at that map again, I'm surprised how accurate it really was. They really nailed it from the MW to TX all the way up to NE. Not sure about the NW, but I'm assuming it probably did play out that way.

Accuweather accurate? Crazy :P

Is it safe for someone (*cough* my mom that I hate) to use the microwave 16 times a day?
16 times a day?
What on earth is she using it for that many times a day for?
God knows. I can't use the slingbox/Internet because it goes out every friggin time she turns on the microwave. She eats too much and has to heat 4-5 different dishes in the microwave for each meal. I warned her that it is probably not a good idea but obviously she doesn't care. Whatever happened to freshness? Because of our family's overuse of microwaves (which I don't like because microwave heated food tastes like crap), we had to get our 3rd new microwave in 2 years last month.
Well its not unsafe but its not healthy either (Food wise) My family stopped having traditional meals when my Dad passed so I have been a microwave junkie too much :P Still thats excessive eating for 4-5 dishes per meal for one person. Hope its something at least somewhat healthy

Hope ya can get Fios. Having satellite for all these years sure isn't fun :(
Well...my dad was thinking about keeping satellite for a while and having TV in his and my bedrooms.
Usually FIOS offers some good deals when they first go to an area. Probably be a while though if they are just putting the cables down

TWC Today News / Re: Local Across the 48s #6 Winter 2010 DELAYED
« on: March 07, 2010, 01:33:24 AM »
I apologize for this noob-ish question, but what exactly is a Local Across the 48s? I mean, I know it's kind of like you record a local forecast from where you live, but is there any other reason behind it? Nonetheless, if I can visit my grandmother that day, her cable company has an IntelliSTAR so I may be able to participate this time around.
Would love for you to be able to participate. Basically you said it. We all record a local forecast at the same time across the country. Neat to compare everyones weather, configurations ,etc. this time we are recording the first TWC segment after to catch the new LDL! Thanks for expressing your interest! :)

This time though, it's only the high that is mistaken. But if you look at the F6 report for Lansing... the high appears as normal (I have attached it here). Also Mike, the information that shows up on the almanac actually is directly from the airport itself... and is not HiRAD based.
Nobody said anything about hirad

Well, I should have said this a while back, but it's confirmed that Verizon FiOS is coming to my small town of 6,500. :D

I saw conduit getting lied in surrounding neighborhoods and I was getting super excited! :D

I will inform you guys if more news comes.

Hope it is FIOS! I saw similar scenes in my area only to be told it was replacement cabling.
It is!! There was a guy in my neighborhood painting lines in where the conduit was to be layed. My mom actually spoke with the contractor this morning.
thats great. hope your family upgrades

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Charter... gone for good?

Odd I was able to see it earlier. Here ya go
Quote
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

Charter Communications Inc. (CCMM) posted a $12.72 billion profit in the fourth quarter on gains related to its Nov. 30 emergence from bankruptcy protection. Meanwhile, operating results were stronger amid higher revenue per subscriber at the cable-television provider.

Charter recently lost Chief Executive Neil Smit, who left the company to run the cable operations at industry leader Comcast Corp. (CMCSA). He was replaced on an interim basis by Chief Operating Officer Michael Lovett. Smit had been chief executive of the St. Louis-based cable provider since 2005.

The company filed for bankruptcy to deal with its crush debt load. Charter shed $8 billion through that process, cutting annual interest costs by more than $800 million. It still has $13.5 billion of debt.

Charter swung to a profit of $12.72 billion from a year-earlier loss of $1.5 billion a year earlier. The company said adjusted earnings before income tax, depreciation and amortization rose 2.4% to $633 million as revenue jumped 3.3% to $1.71 billion.

Video revenue, which is the company's biggest revenue line, saw revenue decline 0.2%. High-speed Internet revenue rose 8.9%, while telephone revenue jumped 18% and commercial revenue rose 13%.

Average revenue per subscriber rose 8.1% as 57% of customers subscribed to a bundled package, up from 53% a year earlier. On subscriber basis, Internet and phone customers grew while television fell.

Shares closed at $30.30 on Monday and were inactive premarket. The stock has fallen more than 15% since leaving bankruptcy.

So Nick, I saw in another forum you got rid of Dish in early 2009. So you had no TV for a year? That must have sucked...
Wow that must have been rough
