Programming and Graphics / Re: Vortex2 2010
« on: April 01, 2010, 10:57:35 PM »
Hey folks, sorry I've been silent for so long. I've been keeping busy with work and my personal life. Nonetheless, I just wanted to pop on and keep you guys up to date on The Weather Channel's plans for Vortex2 this year.

Let's go over some of the changes and highlights...
  • TWC will only be following the armada for the first 3 weeks, unless the last week is expected to heat up.
  • There will be no live chat or streaming on weather.com, can't afford it this year.
  • There will be very little, if any coverage in the outside of morning hours (weather permitting), coverage will be focused on the morning hours.
  • The Green Machine will not have it's Blooomobile attached to it this year, as the satellite fees last year were too expensive.
  • Because live and on the go uplink (Bloomobile) is not available this year, the actual live in the field coverage will be in SD and via cellular 3G broadband (roughly 30+ second delay) (There is no 3G coverage, see how this will cause problems?) The only HD feeds will be during the morning reports as they are not on the move and the standard HD uplink/satellite truck will be in use instead. It is impossible to operate a standard satellite truck while in motion.
  • Instead of a crew of about 6 people this year, it is currently planned to have Mike, a camera operator and a satellite truck operator.

I'll post more information as it becomes available, but I just thought I should post this information now since I just got it.

These changes make this year's Vortex2 sound so boring compared to last year.  :(
Watch them get a few good storms and miss out on it because they don't have the equipment to cover it properly. Also why focus on the mornings? Yea its Mike Bettes and YWT but there is little svr weather in the morning. Boring

A couple of LF related things I don't get here.
If the Intellistar can read the word "lakeshore" when it is used in the phrase "cooler near the lakeshore", then why can't it read lakeshore when it is part of the phrase "Lakeshore Flood Warning"?

There is no Lakeshore Flood Warning. The Intellistar uses thousands of phrases. While its true they are broken up, they are not broken up by word. ie. cooler near the lakeshore is a singe file. It can't just choose a single word from it

:D

Hey, join the club! But wow, that's a landslide record

In retrospect, I would think it could display a record high set for today, and another possible one for tomorrow.

I don't follow you exactly. I think its probably limited to 1 screen

I had braces for about 2 years. I chewed soo much gum. I don't think I changed my eating habits at all. I chew about 2 packs a gum on school days. Addicting :P
lol, I go through 2 packs a day too but that's because so many people demand me to give them gum :P
Hahaha tell me about it :P

It's basically a special ed version of study hall. You get credit for doing work, and get help if needed.
Oh well thats good. Helps your GPA out a bit.

Geesh, I knew trying to improve on my social life would affect my  grades. Ever since I started doing more extra-curricular stuff, such as  working in the studio in the morning, and started skyrocketing with  socialization, my grades started to slip. I have a 76% right now in  English (though I'm not that much of a fan of that teacher, she gets  mood swings a lot, is kinda strict with grading, and my weakness in  that area doesn't help either), and B's in two other classes.
What are "Individual Studies" ? What grade are you in btw?

Crap. I have the new YT layout and everyone else I talk to too has it now.
Yep, I do too. Horribly inconvenient and not user-friendly, like weather.com.

I used to have it but I got switched back to the old one for some reason. To be honest I really don't like it. I'm more into rating vids than just "liking" them.
Copying that from Facebook. Facebook actually got rid of the Become a Fan button. Now its like.

What is a "critical theme" error? :dunno:
From what I could tell, a critical theme error is when something goes wrong in the code involving the forum theme you're using.  You're unable to do anything on your account if it happens.  I had to change Jonathan's forum theme back to the normal settings to fix his problem.
Happens when you change your account to a theme I forgot to remove that doesn't work and you can't get back into your settings to remove. Doh!  :pinch:
