General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

Well around 1 AM, I drank my first monster Energy drink ever. Never expected a rapid heartbeat like that. Thing is, because I can't figure out how to program recordings with this tuner (nor do I think it is that reliable anyway), I have to be in front of it for all recordings. I never sleep well at hotels anyways. But man, I can not imagine drinking several each day like some people do. That scared me a bit.
Mmmm I do like energy drinks! If that was your first though you probably shouldn't have had one at 1am

I just did the the math, and the City by City side and bottom bar eats up 47% of full scree viewing!  ughh!
Its a it annoying although you don't see too many anyway in the bottom area if they weren't covering it up

There is a Shrek 4?? Wow. Beating that horse to death aren't they

It's the fourth and final installment. I will say I love all 4. Shrek 2 is my favorite.
I saw the first two. Its a decent series but its tiring how there is literally no creativity with movies. If it works they milk as many movies as they can from it.
I am now out of school already! Now I won't be annoyed of loudness during the summer anymore. I'm so tired of students never *shut their mouth up* and listen the rule.  :club:
Awesome! I have just a few days left.

I don't understand how I missed it. :dunno: Maybe the mobile version's way of quoting confused me. And it seems that I'm all normal now. :)
Glad its fixed! Sorry you were having trouble :)
Anyways, who's seen Shrek 4 and what do you guys think of it if you have seen it?

General Discussion / Re: Oil Slick In The Gulf
« on: May 28, 2010, 12:29:14 AM »
I wasn't talking about throwing more money than is currently being used on the process altogether. I meant that the money that is being wasted on stopping the oil at the shore can be spent for developing solutions for more effectively stopping the oil at the source much sooner. Stopping it at the shore and cleaning it up does not mean it can't keep coming or go elsewhere.
They have hundred of scientists and people a hundreds time smarter then any of us working on it. Its not a matter of finding more people to work on it. This isn't one of those cases where more people working on a solution will produce faster results. Skipping trying to prevent the spread of oil and just focus on the source  will destroy local economies and ecosystems.

So what color do you want them to make it? Most colors won't look good with the current design.
HOT PINK! Problem solved. Thank me later TWC  B)

I contacted TWC and Cox about both issues plus why we're getting Junction City and not a city like Lawrence instead. They fixed the Olathe/Junction City problem yesterday. The guy at Cox Tech Support emailed me back and said he'd forward the adding different cities issue to the engineers to see what could be done. A different guy with Cox Tech via phone told me all the Weatherscan Intellistars across the area were reading Temporarily Unavailable due to a "satellite alignment issue TWC is working on." Which I don't believe. Call Cox and report the problem. They see it as a "if only one person reports it then it's only happening with you." problem. If you call or email they're muchmore likely to correct it.
The Galaxy-15 satellite is passing under the AMC-11 satellite and it failed to stop sending signals, which will cause interference. Source here:

No! The AMC-11 satellite is only used for legacy STAR systems. TWC is not broadcast on that satellite for satellite, Intellistar, and WeatherScan users but rather AMC-10. The video you linked to was taken from a feed using the AMC-11 feed.

Great! More long form.. exactly what we need with The Weather Channel.

Before I was only slightly irritated, now about 90% of the time, The Weather Channel isn't The Weather Channel, its never about the weather anymore...

Honestly, I am fed up with it..  :censored:
Its a it frustrating but at this point what can you do. If I have to see long form it might as well be interesting!

I've heard talk about the possibility of this oil getting caught in the Gulf Stream, though things are up for change at any moment. Creating blocks at the shore is not an effective shore-up. It's wasting valuable time, and not to mention money, that could be used to make the capping of the oil pipe itself go much faster.

how will that help? They already have people working on it and throwing money at the issue wont help. Its not money that was causing the problem trying to figure out how to stop the leak.

In any case looks like things are looking better:
'Top kill' stops gulf oil leak for now

If they can roll out the new LDL, the least they can do is change the darn fonts on the rest of the LF to match the on-air fonts.
I still have no clue why they went with that theme for the new ldl.
Not exactly what I was referring to, Jesse.
What did you mean?  :dunno:

Honestly, weatherscan seems boring to me. I'm all for a separate channel for only weather, but having OCMs walk the viewer through along with local forecasts every few minutes is just fine.
Some might argue the latter is boring too. Well you can't always have your cake and eat it too. WeatherScan is the cheapest and easiest solution to everyones problems in this scenario

Every community in Kansas and Arkansas? Cox here does not offer WeatherScan. Instead they have a deal with a local NBC affiliate where they rerun a video forecast all day.

Can anyone explain why gas prices have dropped?  While millions of gallons of oil is just pouring into the ocean?  :hammer:

Its 1 oil rig. If we were talking about hundreds or thousands of oil rigs and refineries then it would be a different story.

Government at its finest:
"Another Jindal complaint: a slow government response to his state's proposal to build a 94-mile-long string of sand berms across Louisiana's coast to keep the oil at bay.

The $350 million barrier plan was hatched by Plaquemines Parish officials shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 as a way to keep out future storm surges and could work equally well to block out the oil, says P.J. Hahn, director of coastal management for the parish.

The plan would take four to six months to complete, but 12 dredges working simultaneously on the project would bring relief to coastal marshes almost immediately, says Nungesser, the Plaquemines president.

On May 11, Louisiana requested an emergency permit for the plan from the Army Corps of Engineers that would bypass lengthy environmental impact reviews. Corps and Coast Guard officials have voiced concerns, and the matter is still under review."
