Programming and Graphics / Re: New HD LDL?
« on: June 07, 2010, 02:00:50 AM »
I still haven't seen this, sadly.  I think it's a step in the right direction.  Utilize the lower third of the screen with scrolling information while showing different info in the other 2/3 of the screen.  I'm VERY excited for the HDStar.  Then I can FINALLY get some use from TWC HD!
....the waiting is the hardest part :P

I just realized that this has been my first time posting since... Friday? O_o I'm practically bored. It has been a busy weekend to be honest. I also have been "on the other side" of things. Finals week is this week, and I am so ready.

I can also make this official: Going on vacation starting the 4th of July weekend and the week of July 5 to La Rumorosa and Puerto Penasco, Mexico. I'm heading to La Rumorosa for a family reunion, and to Puerto Penasco just to relax there for the week. I'm excited.. it's going to be an awesome summer. Word of warning: I will not bring my laptop with me this time. :(

Curious to see the details of the new iPhone thats going to be released tomorrow. The design has already been leaked but I cant wait to see the specs!

omgomgomg I know! My friends and I can't wait for it either!
Good luck on the finals! Sounds like its going to be a fun summer! :) Hope I am invited haha

I really need a phone upgrade. 2 years on the same device is a bit old. Hope we see some cool things tomorrow

Couple little areas to watch. Few waves rolling off the African coast. Little disturbance in the central Atlantic as well http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/tatl/flash-avn.html

Everything Else TWC / Re: Has TWC lost its way?
« on: June 06, 2010, 11:13:11 PM »
Lets try to appreciate some of the good things about TWC rather than continuously look at the bad things.
Really? Like what?
I still enjoy lot of stuff on TWC. Am I the only one? I like the local forecasts, tech revolving around it, majority of shows (ie Weather Center, Weekend Now), most of the OCMs, show graphics, etc.

I started realizing that when they didn't show my iWitness stuff, but I didn't want to discuss it until it became a fad around the forum. :hmm:
What didn't they show? They show stuff I send in. Sometimes though tornado or storm videos outweigh other submissions   :hmm:

Yes. I was saying the people who are against physical punishment of their children need to get over it

I agree with Martin and Jesse. The topic has been beaten to death. Of course, TWC has lost its way. It did so YEARS ago. The days of being able to rely on TWC to keep you safe during bad weather are long gone. If you still use it during a tornado or a hurricane, you're screwed.
Glad someone agrees. We have been whining about the same things over and over again. I think its clear most of us do not like the changes ( but you still watch TWC anyways). TWC doesn't get half the credit they deserve for the good things they do. When it comes straight down to it I agree with Jesse. If it really bothers you so much and you do not like The Weather Channel for what its become,  then stop watching it. Some of the stuff I have seen is crazy. Lets try to appreciate some of the good things about TWC rather than continuously look at the bad things.

I never watched TWC when there's a tornado outbreak in my area, I watch my local ABC affiliate mainly because even when TWC did or does severe wx coverage they are covering the whole region or regions affected as they should be, but when your really worrying about what's happening in your neck of the woods and not two or three states away, it's no point in watching them anyway, but I can understand your frustration.
Exactly. Nobody is their right mind would watch TWC over local coverage if a friggin tornado is on their house. TWC is by far on the last places people are going to get critical alerts. Hurricanes are when TWC really shines since its not as unpredictable and are slower.

This is nothing new. If by lost its way you mean making more money and oddly enough increasing ratings and viewers while sacrificing weather programming,  then yes. They are using the dual feed. Its sad but the topic has been beaten to death. Sad facts are they will do whatever it takes to get their numbers up. People are stupid enough to watch it apparently. As I have said before, who really turns to the Weather Channel over a local news station which covers a local storm in more detail and information then TWC ever could. Just saying anyways

Does Penn State offer a degree online or just the certificate program?  I don't intend on being a meteorologist...I enjoy the career i already have.  I've just always had an interest in weather and would like to learn more about it.  Someday when im rich i'll just go storm chasing for fun.
Just a certificate

General Discussion / Re: 4 Day School Weeks- Good or bad idea?
« on: June 05, 2010, 10:35:47 PM »
Numerous school districts in Kansas have also did this.  As long as kids test scores remain the same I don't see a problem...
Crank up the school hours, cut a day per week and I imagine they will save a bundle. Sounds good to me
