General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove

It looks like the HD feed of TWC has been unceremoniously removed from the cable line-up here.  Looks like the NFL Network HD is going to be put there in its place. :cry3:
How are you so certain about that? Are you sure it wasn't moved around? :dunno:

If it has, I haven't been able to find it, and the programming guide still says it's where I last found it.

Id browse around the AVS forum. A lot of employees with cable companies often post there and its a good way to find out changes that are going on for the network. http://www.avsforum.com/t/384294/orlando-fl-bhn/15420 I don't think ive ever seen a case where the HD feed was dropped and the SD remained.

The emulator works fine in VMWare Fusion which can allow the emulator to function on a Mac. It also works fine in Bootcamp

There's a way to alleviate this matter if you don't like viewing links from signatures all the time.  Go to Modify Profile within your profile settings, and choose Look and Layout.  Halfway down you can check the box next to "Don't show users' signatures."  That setting will allow you to browse the threads without viewing everyone's signatures.  You'll still be able to view signatures if you click on individual member profiles, which is what I prefer.  It's your choice if you want that setting on, but all of you should ensure your signatures are safe if you have external links in them.
That shouldn't be required to alleviate this matter. There should be no problem at all and if there is steps will need to be taken. But for those who don't want to see any signatures you can still choose that method.

TWC Today is an ad free site. With users linking to outside sources in their signatures sometimes these things do happen. If it becomes a common occurrence outside linked images may have to be prohibited from signatures

Glad to be going to the 4th Tri-state Weather Conference on October 13th. Going to this conference will expand my knowledge and meet new people. WCBS-TV's primetime on-air meteorologist Lonnie Quinn will be there, a great opportunity for me to begin networking.

Looks like a great lineup! I see that a good friend of mine, Eleanor Talbot from the NWS office in Taunton will be presenting. Give her my regards if you see her. I'll be at the NWA Annual Meeting the week before. Have fun!

Alas, my dear fellow members, we have 5 days left of the Front Porch before the first day of fall....

The difference is TWC isn't independently owned anymore,if they still were that might still be true today, but TWC/NBC/Comcast as a whole don't care about that except only when it financially suits them like it did with Isaac for example.
TWC was never independently owned. It was previously owned by Landmark Communications in Norfolk. Landmark owns many tv stations, radio stations and newspapers.

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: General IS2 Discussion
« on: September 10, 2012, 06:30:54 PM »
As of yesterday evening, my local headend (Charter) started to display their ads over the HD TWC feed at :17/:47 of each hour (they didn't used to before.) They are the same ads that get displayed on the SD TWC feed simultaneously as on the HD one. I'm still seeing the HD SLF and LDL as of this morning, but I'm certain that maybe, just maybe, Charter might be getting the IS2 unit for Astoria real soon  My fingers are crossed.
Its possible. Or they are just trying to make more money!

Local Forecast / Re: IntelliStar I and II Update planned
« on: September 07, 2012, 11:56:58 PM »
TWC has intended to redo the IS in the same format as the IS2. The question has always been do they use new equipment because the IS2 architecture is so radically different or do they squeak some more life out of the IS. It sounds like whoever gave that statement clearly works in the PR division as there is barely any details of any changes. I'm also curious what they mean by "new format". Perhaps that just means new design but I suspect we see a bigger push for the l bar type forecasts.

It will be interesting to see, however I'm a pretty firm believer of the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Graphically, the IntelliStar is terribly broken and desperately needs to be fixed. I've been preaching this for 5 years now.
Why is it "broken"?

Here's the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season so far by the numbers:

Tropical Storms:  13  (Average:  11)
Hurricanes:  7  (Average:  6)
Major Hurricanes:  0  (Average:  2)

This season is officially above average, and we're only halfway done!  Micheal may become the first major hurricane, so we may start adding to that last row soon.  I don't think any of us expected these results at the halfway point!
Its been an odd year. A lot of relatively small storms. The ACE values so far have been dead low. Around 50 last time I looked. Michael will surely help boost it a bit but its one of the lowest storm to ace ratios that I have seen.

But if you really think about it wouldn't the average viewer find vocal music mixed with Narration rather annoying anyway?
Nope in fact most people I know actually pay attention to it more.

At first, I completely hated the vocal music when they started playing it a few months ago, but then I kinda got used to it and then just accepted it  :itsok:  I imagine TWC added the vocal music just for ratings and money, and if that's what they're doing, then we the viewers will just have to probably accept it, right?
I mean ratings and money dont really have anything to do with the local on the 8s. It probably cost a lot more to license the vocal songs. Its about attracting audiences and keeping people interested. Songs people recognize and relate to help draw them in more and pay closer attention. Smooth jazz is nice but few people appreciate it. I think its a smart idea. I've enjoyed many of the selections they picked. I do miss the fact that TWC was a place to find and discover jazz music. :(
