Weather acting head of TV Sharon Scott said at the meeting that the network will be moving to a new talk show format during dayside early next year.

 :dunno:
I heard someone mention this a while back but it didn't mean much until I saw this. There was a desire to have more guests and personal conversations rather than just an OCM standing in front of the green screen. The general idea was to make it more personal

Nope but it will hopefully be more weather oriented

Thanks guys :)

Seems logical. I was pleased to see this in particular

His comments foreshadowed a shift for the flagship television channel, as well. The previous chief executive of the company, Michael J. Kelly, oversaw the addition of taped reality shows and documentaries, some of which were only tangentially connected to weather. The changes sometimes lifted the channel's ratings, but alienated fans who wanted live weather news.

Mr. Kenny seems to be pulling back a bit: taped shows in the future will have weather as a "main character," he said, not just a background character. A documentary series about ironworkers in New York is not being renewed, for instance. Some new programs will emphasize stories from Internet users who submit weather videos and photos.

"The TV division has really doubled down on weather enthusiasts as their core audience," Mr. Kenny said.

"We're not trying to serve everybody," he added. "We're trying to serve our core audience really well."

OCMs & Personalities / Re: 2012 Layoffs

Done. Sadly Kacy P who worked on graphics and played a role in the IS2 graphic development was let go. Apparently everyone effected had to be escorted out of the building. We thank her for posting on here from time to time and wish her the best of luck with her future endeavors :(

From Ad Week,"Since the acquisition by its new owners, TWC has lost all of its original meteorologists and has begun to use talent from the NBCU stable, including Al Roker, whose production company has played a significant role in the network's expansion into serial content."

I'm not sure that is 100% true. Some of the OCM's from the 1980's are now working off camera.
Unless they were part of the 7% let go today.

Keeping track of who is still with TWC.
Maria and Eric were on this AM.
Kim was on tonight with Chris and Paul.
Danielle said on Facebook she on with Nick Wed 11am-2pm.

Thats a play on words. Its not nearly as bad if you consider the OCMs before the acquisitionvs after rather than since its founding to present.

He wasn't laid off. He has a new 10-week-old baby at home and he's going to be a stay at home dad. They just gave him a "send off" goodbye on WCL tonight.
His departure was part of the cuts. He just has something to fall back on unlike Morrow unfortunately .

Forgot to mention this but when I was at the 4th Tri-State Weather Conference on Saturday, I got to have lunch with the longest running primary meteorologist on a radio station, Craig Allen (yes we have the same name, I was named after him). I also got to speak with WCBS-TV's primary prime time meteorologist Lonnie Quinn, though he's not a real meteorologist. It was a great conference. I'm surprised at my self how well I was able to understand what they were talking about, especially when they went into detail about mesocyclones and dual-polarization radar.
Did you get a NWAS12 lunchbag :P Eleanor from the Taunton office was shipping a bunch of them up there last week.

NWAS12 in Madison was fantastic but a bit cold. It was great catching up with a lot of the industries leading OCMs and operational mets. Jim and Nick were fun to chat with again. I was disappointed the the Department of Commerce sought fit to remove nearly 75% of funding for NWS employees to attend one day before the event. What a low move

Talked to some sources and lets just say his departure wasn't his idea

Since this topic is becoming its own entity, I've merged everything together into one thread for you all. ;)  Also, the NWS recently stated "no opinion" on this matter as they have no control on private weather industries, but they are not going to get involved in the naming process.
Thanks Patrick! I missed the conversation going on and just made a thread since I thought it was pretty interesting :)

Ugh... Is the GFS ALREADY hinting the signs of ANOTHER October snow storm for the interior northeast? Last year when the GFS did that, looked what happened. This exactly what I didn't want. We probably won't get snow, but I definitely don't want the cold temps to arrive this fast.  :thumbdown:

Note:
Map = Precip Type
Green = Rain
Red = Freezing Rain/Sleet/Mix
Blue = Snow
Those maps are extremely inaccurate this early in the season and its not uncommon for that model to spit out crazy stuff when you're easily a week out. I wouldn't hold your breath :P

Eastern closed down although I now own the data and name and am working with a few people to bring it back up.

Americanwx.com by far is the best and the one that most people migrated to after Eastern.

They are back to using two OCMs for Weekend View 5am-7am.

9/15 was Danielle and Jeff.

Saturday was Danielle and Jeff. Today is Danielle and Ray.
I wonder what prompted the change
