Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Hermine
« on: September 06, 2010, 12:30:49 PM »
Hermine... Probably nothing but a nuisence low pressure system.
I agree. Its not looking like anything major. Biggest impact will be rainfall. It popped up at the end of a front I believe. Its been around for a few dags but only recently got its act together.

i see it possible that they may go into full storm alert mode for Hermine because it could become a hurricane...i dont think they are going to wait for a cat 3 or greater because this is the first relatively strong tropical system to make a us landfall since ike in 08 (if it does still exist)
You just had a Cat4 threaten the east coast and they didn't do it. Hermine is a weak pathetic storm. Good luck getting TWC to even really cover it. And that storm has little to no chance of being a hurricane upon landfall
lol :rofl2:
Your acting like TWC is the world yet it should be the least of priorities so what i said wasnt supposed to be funny

I got a couple paper routes a few weeks ago... The only thing I hate about it is waking up TOO early Sat/Sun, and also this morning.
Wow I didn't know you could still get paper routes without a car. Ive always thought of it as a neat little job to do :)

Programming / Re: Tropical Update maps

Thank you very much for sharing!

Personally, I prefer the maps from Hugo.  There's a simplicity to them that I enjoy.  Today's 3-D maps sometimes get confusing, with strange angles and other "bells and whistles" to show off the technology, while masking the actual information in the process.
yes thanks for posting these! :)

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: IntelliStar 2 Beta Launch
« on: September 05, 2010, 11:46:49 PM »
I've had an idea for the past couple of days.  There may be some cable headends that:

1. Don't have a WeatherScan channel, or wish to start one with their current Intellistar
2. Are interested in HD local forecasts
3. Would rather maintain as few WeatherStar units as possible

I was watching a baseball game which took the HD feed, and through a process called "Active Format Description", or AFD, letterboxed the feed on the SD version of the channel.  Some AFD metadata was sent with 4x3 SD commercials, so these ads displayed normally on standard def TVs -- there weren't any black bars on all four sides (also known as "windowboxing").

It's not the only place I've seen this happen.  I've also seen it on several other channels.  There has been enough of a trend in the cable industry to use a single master feed for HD and SD, that The Weather Channel should look into enabling a similar, entirely optional, feature on the Intellistar 2, for headends who are interested.

I don't know if the Intellistar 2 has an SD output of some kind, but hopefully one can be retrofitted for cable headends who are interested.  Also, the text graphics would likely need to be tweaked so they're legible on SD sets.
There wont be a dual STAR.

Believe it or not, it's at random folks.
What?! Outrageous! It has to be a TWC conspiracy against us.

Programming and Graphics / Re: AL Roker Should Be on Weekends Too
« on: September 05, 2010, 11:11:36 PM »
Is Wake Up With Al really their highest rated show? That surprises me. Either people love Al Roker or they can't stand him. I, for one, love waking up with Al. I've always liked his sense of humor and such.
Mornings and weekends are the highest rated shows for TWC regardless whats on. Al and the promotions done by TWC add to that high rating

It's a big region-wide music festival... all kinds of music: hip-hop, R&B, hard rock, etc. I'm a crew member there, so I get in free!
Sounds cool! Have fun :)

Summer doesn't seem like the time of year when you'd get sick, but that's actually when I get sick the most often. I always seem to have the misfortune of being around sick people by the time classes roll around again. Being sick in the heat is no fun.
Winter months are usually prone to higher rates of sickness because everyone is always inside and usually in closed spaces. Summertime, people are usually out more. So while the environment for the germs and bugs are better in the summer, more people are directly affected in the cooler months. Its really interesting when you think about it. I am sorry to hear you all are sick on this lovely holiday weekend. I hope you feel better soon :(
