I love that people are taking this seriously. Don't worry about the impending fiscal cliff but lets cover this joke and sex scandals!

That's really cool, Martin. I'm proud that you're pursuing your interests, and believe me, from the way it sounds, you are more than intellectually capable to succeed in the work that will be placed in front of you to get a degree in meteorology.

In the talks of a shift to a more weather-oriented site, are we thinking more of a general weather forum with some ties to The Weather Channel? I know right now we're largely TWC oriented, but with the direction that seems to be going lately, I don't oppose a shift. Most posts I read are mainly just chat and talk about the weather. Most things said about TWC are mostly negative anyway. :P
Thanks for the kind comments. Everyone here has been like family and I hate to see negative talk get between us. Not too much negativity regarding the weather! Haha :)

The name of the forum is TWC Today and I think its important to stick to the roots of why we exist. That being said its gotten to the point where the passion for The Weather Channel can't fully support a upbeat and active community. I think a 60/40 or 50/50 focus would be good. I feel we are around 80/20 at this point for perspective.

The current problem with the website is that its becoming increasingly difficult to maintain with the current architecture is place. I would like to see a revamp at some point but I can't dedicate any time towards that. It would be up to Jesse to work on something or if there is enough support we could pay for a design. A shift to a more weather oriented community has always been a goal of mine. I bought Eastern in hopes of one day bringing it back. I've had no time to invest in that currently.

All of these changes involve time and participation. I'd like to see if I could get some feedback on who might be willing to help out with the administration and management side of TWCT. As some of you know I am actively pursuing a career in meteorology. Unfortunately having my positon at a site like this is a reliability and could threaten potential career opportunities. Soon I will need to step down from my position. I'm looking forward to implementing as much feedback as possible. Thanks everyone for sharing your ideas!

The common misconception seems to be that TWC is a public service. It's not. Its a commercial product designed to generate revenue just like every other channel and news service. One might blame the NWS for continuing to have poor relations with the general population.  It's unfair to say that TWC is forcing this down peoples throats and encouraging other stations or the NWS to accept the name. I haven't seen one indication of that. In fact it was the HPC under the NWS that made the name Frankenstorm. That terminology undercut the hurricane status that had been maintained by the NHC and caused greater confusion. I haven't seen anyone complain about TWCs Torcon levels or their proprietary threat levels yet endless discussion over the naming thing. It was a unique idea that I think was worth a shot.

Help and Support / Slight Issue

I have a unique system setup to show my weather station next to the emulator. I need to be able to select the program once its running to bring it to the front of the screen ahead of other apps. I used to be able to do this by selecting  alt-tab. The latest release breaks this.

How the heck is it almost Thanksgiving?!

I know right?!? It felt like it was only yesterday when I was watching New Year's Eve celebrations on TV. Did this year go by so fast or what?
I feel like I just skipped these past few months. Haha! :P Been travelling a lot and school has kept me busy. I went to Madison, Seattle and Vancouver within a couple weeks. I'm ready for the Thanksgiving break, especially considering how busy the weather has been

National Weather Service: Just say no to Athena.

Just a memo to employees to refrain from calling that. Smart thinking after the Frankenstorm mess they had.

The markets were more in response to a growing economic crisis in Europe rather than Obama - although it certainly would have done better if business man Romney had won.  ;)

They both equally played a role in the market today in my opinion though I think things will rebound a bit tomorrow.

Wasn't sure where to put this...the mods may consider making a child board for winter storms.

According to Stephanie Abrams' Facebook page, TWC is now calling this Nor'Easter "Athena".
Because of the inconsistency with their naming system and the fact that its not officially supported by the NWS I'm hesitant to make a subforum. What do you all think?

What a sad night for the Romney supporters. Obama ran a good campaign and won fair and square so its time to support the president. Hopefully the next four years are prosperous for the economy and the American people.
