Tyler btw is having trouble getting on the site since the move. Nothing new that I have heard from him or anyone else. Slowly rolling out but its likely going to be many months before most people get it, if they get it at all. Remember too that your cable company has to actually request it.

Is that because cable companies already have the local forecast on the SD version of the TWC?  I'm hoping that Time Warner decides to get it because I like watching the HD version but I have to flip to the SD version for the local forecast.
Probably! Plus cable companies have to pay for STARs. In the awesome economy and with cable companies struggling to upgrade their aging networks, I imagine some wont want to pay for it.

Everything Else TWC / Re: TWC Getting Back Into Weather?
« on: October 09, 2010, 12:21:02 AM »
When Day Planner ends, most local stations broadcast from 5-7 including national news. I think it is smart to work with this and try not to directly compete with these newscasts.
Even on the west coast (the news airing 2-4 PM)?
I meant really just the east coast.

Is this permanent though or do they just have more to talk about because of the time of year? Hurricane season always gets more eyes to focus on the weather.
That is a good point! We will see I guess when hurricane season ends.

I see that nobody got the hint that this topic was not to discuss TWCs choice of OCMs

As far as weekends go  I am not as concerned with those two days personally. If you look at live TV content, even news channels use long form and taped shows on the weekends. I am not really going to hold TWC's choice to operate as they are now on the weekends against them. I think personally that weekends are a good time for longform.

With the new time changes TWC has made with their weekday programming, they have worked it around the typical broadcast times of local news/weather broadcasts on the east coast. When Day Planner ends, most local stations broadcast from 5-7 including national news. I think it is smart to work with this and try not to directly compete with these newscasts.

Hurricane Central / Re: Subtropical Storm Otto

By that logic I believe the NHC should classify extra-tropical systems. Yes their classification is screwy in meteorology terms but they can cause huge amounts of damage. Names give these systems recognition in the public eye. That is sad that it takes a name to give a storm attention but if it helps get people to safety then it is worth it.
NHC is only responsible for anything tropical in nature, so the rest is up to the other parts of the NWS.  Extratropical storms would be much harder as there are far more of those than tropical and subtropical storms.  We'd need a pressure threshold so that not every little storm is named.  I just wish people would listen and obey to watches and warnings for any storm.  Then, there wouldn't be an issue.
Really is a shame :(

Subtropical storms can be just as devastating and deadly as a tropical storm, which is why meteorologists agreed to recognize them.

With the noreaster last year in my area we had tropical storm force winds and hurricane force gusts for 3 1/2 days. People didn't pay any attention to it. The flooding turned out to be equivalent to a hurricane.
