One gripe I have regarding warnings/advisories is for rip current threats. Usually a rip current threat results in a Coastal Flood Statement to be issued. It can be very confusing seeing that all the time for the average person. I know they just recently started beta testing a Rip Current Advisory this year at a couple select offices. I hope more adopt it

Winter Weather / Re: Possible Winter Storm in the south Sunday and Monday

Wishes they would cancel school for tomorrow.
A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH
MONDAY EVENING.

* ACCUMULATION: LESS THAN 1 INCH OF SNOW AND SLEET WITH PERHAPS
AS MUCH AS 1/4 INCH OF FREEZING RAIN.

* TIMING: BEGINNING AROUND DAYBREAK MONDAY AND CONTINUING
  THROUGH MONDAY EVENING.

* IMPACTS: DANGEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY TO DEVELOP
MONDAY INTO MONDAY EVENING. POWER OUTAGES WITH DOWNED TREES AND
POWER LINES ARE POSSIBLE WHERE THE MORE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF
  ICE BUILDUP OCCURS.
There is no watch for Charleston. All rain for that area for most of the storm

According to the Memphis NWS, there is a chance of thundersnow there. So snowfall rates could be of excess of 2-3 inches an hour if that occurs which I believe is likely, there looks to be a lot of lift with the development of this storm atm.
I actually had some thundersnow today :P

I am sure you all have heard about the possiblity of ice, snow and sleet across the deep south for Sunday and Monday. Why are these kind of weather events so tricky, complicated and difficult to forecast?
A large part of forecasting is based on computer models and analyses. There are several highly regarded models: GFS (American) ECMWF (European) and NAM. There are countless others that are considered less accurate but are used to compare to the main models. Most models are run four times a day. 0z, 6z, 12z, 18z. 0z and 12z models are typically more accurate because they contain the latest observations and balloon launch data from across the country. This year has been VERY tough for forecasters because there have been such HUGE changes in each model run with each model showing a different picture. The Euro might show 20in of snow at 0z then only 1in by 12z. There has been little model consistency this winter. To throw another headache in the system.... Forecasting events in the south is always extra tricky when you have to consider temperatures.

Ok Google is amazing. I accidentally added all of my twitter and facebook contacts to my phones contact list. That list was then synced to google. I thought I would have to wipe all of my contacts and find a backup to restore but Google apparently has a built in feature that restores your contact list to any point in time. Google rocks. I never thought they would have something like that built in to google contacts.

Its outrageous!
Too early for me. :P

If Winter School still existed, I would have started school today. But alas, damn you budget cuts. >_> I start my registration for my LAST semester of IVC in two weeks, then start school on Feb 14.
Wow Feb 14? Thats quite a break

So, that schedule might not be 100% correct, however we do know for sure Weather Center has been cut back M-F in favor of long form, which is disappointing IMO.

We know how accurate TWCs schedules tend to be :P

Article seems legit though and about what I expect from TWC.

I like this quote
Quote
"[Viewers] are telling us that weather is more to them than just forecasting, but it's about how weather impacts their life," he said. "The customer has told us that engaging programming in primetime is actually something that they are interested in from The Weather Channel, but it has to be without giving up any of our commitment to live weather coverage."

First they say weather is important to people. Then they say people want long form but without loosing live weather coverage. 1. Thats impossible    2. I have yet to meet the person who says "hey lets sit down and watch this great program on The Weather Channel during primetime". 3. Who is the "customer"? Cable companies or the average joe sitting at home?
