Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

Figured, but just making sure. We've never had traffic info for Topeka so I wouldn't have known if they did add it back in.

Is traffic back on for anybody??? They keep saying, "Now your local weather and traffic on the 8's." :dunno:

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Ed Libus or Leebus?

He's a great, great guy! He was our chief meteorologist here at KTKA-TV (ABC) 49 in Topeka for many years when I was at the station in the late 1990's and early 2000's. Got to work with him many times and hang out with him in the weather center, especially during severe weather coverage. Gave me many tips as I was practicing at the news desk and gave me one of the biggest compliments I've ever had. Grabbed a camera as storms were rolling in, went through the studio past him to go out back of the station, he stopped me and said laughingly, "Where are you goin'?" I said, "Out back to shoot video." He said, "You're going out back to shoot lightning video?" I said, "Yeah, so we can have something to show if we need to break in soon." He said, "Nobody asked you to go shoot video, you grabbed a camera and did it yourself? That's the kind of drive and motivation that's gonna get you somewhere in this business." Never forget that.

I was told later by Julie Goldberg (now Julie Unruh at WGN-TV), our weeeknd anchor at the time, I wasn't supposed to be using the cameras. Eh, oh well. Glad he never wanted to use the video, because it came out incredibly bad! lol :whistling:

Not sure when it came back, but my IntelliStar is back as of 11:28 now

Yeah, they're back up and running now. Thinking it had to do with the control room since none of them were cueing.

Am I the only one not getting any local info at all? Nothing from IS2, thought it was another IS2 outage here... then switched to the SD version, no IS coming on there either!

General Discussion / Weather Graphics Products

Thought this was an interesting read from TVNewsCheck on what different companies will be presenting this year.

"Vendors of the competitive and fast changing weather graphics market will be out in force next month at the NAB Show. In many cases, the new products and features they will be promoting were developed in direct response to customer, and even audience, research."

Our Health segment is still showing winter safety tips, even though we've been switched over to the spring/summer packages. :dunno:

Local Forecast / Re: Lack of flavor variety

I've been thinking the same thing of the IS2 again. We were getting Climate Data (record highs/lows and/or precip amounts) and that doesn't show up anymore so it's the same exact thing over and over again now. I don't need sunrise and sunset with moon phase information every single time the LOT8's comes on and on the LDL.

Programming and Graphics / Re: New Video Wall
« on: March 10, 2012, 10:50:38 AM »
I have a feeling it will be a larger scale of the expert desk video wall with monitors showing different image sources. IE: Live video on one, source 2 on another, radar source on another, graphics system 3 on another, etc, etc. but can all be turned in to one large image. Just my idea.

Yeah, Wichita, KS and Topeka, KS were both doing the same thing that day. I chalked it up to the solar storm.

Considering we haven't had winter weather at all this season, and our extended forecast is now ending in the 80's... might as well be switched over to summer packages across most of the country at this point. Our pollen screen is already showing with 107 being todays pollen count. Ugh. No wonder I'm sneezing so much today. When do they usually start switching packages over to summer? I know it's a headend to headend basis.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Re: IS2 Outage
« on: March 07, 2012, 11:10:23 AM »
BTW: Weather Channel HD is nothing but a black screen all morning. No picture, no audio. :/ Called Cox and they're "not having any known issues with the channel, but we can send a tech out tomorrow."

EDIT: We're back up.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Re: IS2 Outage

I don't want to start a new thread for this since it goes for the same unit. Our IS2 is putting up a green screen again a lot since Monday. Then it glitches in and out and finally goes away and throws it back to the satellite feed and does not come back until after the next commercial break. It's doing it randomly whenever the IS2 is on screen at all. Scrolls, LDL, LOT8's. Also I've noticed that forecasts like TONIGHT: Party Cloudy/Windy for various locations have the sun icon instead of the moon icon. It does it randomly through hourly forecasts (1am it's not sunny here), overnight forecast on the LDL, during LOT8's map forecasts, etc. If someone could look at that at least, not sure if it's a certain weather condition that triggers it, but it tends to be during Party Cloudy forecast conditions. Also not sure if this is a general IS2 problem or a problem with just ours, but I've noticed it several times.
