WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Freezing/Jumping Problems
« on: June 12, 2012, 06:34:34 PM »
Our Weatherscan system is jumping here. Since this seems to be a problem coming up more and more on other systems, feel free to post here with the same issue.

System currently jumping is on COX in Topeka, Kansas. 31067

Actually, I was worried that the IS2 was having glitches again, especially since it took a month (!) to get it working.

I thought it was on ours, too. Then we got a Special Weather Statement yesterday for heat and realized it must just not be activating. We're getting our LOT8's (or whatever it's on at this point.) Just thought I'd ask if anybody else was having the same issue. Not going to rant... but I would think this would be the time that they'd want to have the local LDL on the most, since most of the actual coverage is concentrated on a certain few areas.

Pretty sure we're past the beta phase, so starting a general IS2 thread.

Is anyone else only getting the national LDL since they switched it to red and started showing the Beryl bug?

According to Mike Bettes' Facebook and Twitter:

"One more day in NYC then a quick trip home, then off to The Plains to resume @tornadohunt Saturday."

Yeah, they're headed to Kansas/Nebraska for potential severe weather. The system will move east into my area of NE Kansas on Saturday night and Sunday.

Since I do not see a topic for the TWC mobile app, I'll just post this here...

Today, version 5.0.0 of the TWC mobile app was released, and it is a COMPLETE overhaul of what is was previously.  Some of the most notable changes include a photo background for the current conditions instead of an icon (like on weather.com...this seems to be a popular thing now), a camera button on the "Now" page to automatically take you to your camera to take a weather picture, the new weather.com icons, different map navigation, and of course, an easier way to share the weather on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Overall, I think it's pretty nice.

Nice... and free. Sucks if you shelled out the $5 a couple years ago and always get the new version months after the free one comes out.  :club:

I'm not saying they were wrong to suspend the hunt, just noting that there is severe weather.
TWC even pre-empted taped programming since around 9pm to cover the severe Texas storms.

Ah, okay. My appologies. I thought you were meaning there was a storm they could be chasing, which in reality, they could. Just not enough severe weather. It's May... I figured we'd be in the thick of things right now. Slightly depressing, but I try and remember that at least people aren't losing their life or property. Nice, scenic tornadoes out in the fields with good sized storms in the cities would be nice right now. <_<

So... spending hundreds of dollars+ is worth chasing one POSSIBLE tornado? They want outbreaks... which are nowhere in the future. A tornado warning could be issued there, and a tornado warning could be issued in Kansas at the same time, neither actually producing a tornado. So...

There's nothing to chase anyways for now. So... why waste money for nothing?

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion

I don't understand why this is such a huge deal. You guys act like you're the only ones that watch the channel. I'm bored with the put me to sleep music all the time. The fact is you apparently think you're the only ones that matter and reality is the AVERAGE viewer listens to today's music. So instead of falling asleep while they watch their local forecast, they'd rather listen to the stuff they hear on the radio. Don't bother jumping down my throat. :censored:

Palmer Drought Index seems to not be working at all. It's not working here in Topeka, either.

They should've been in Topeka tonight! It was pretty intense. Can't wait for Monday! They might even be in the area anyways then!

Now that we're not in tornado warnings anymore...  :o
The past three or four days our Palmer Drought Index in Topeka on COX cable Weatherscan has been saying "Temporarily Unavailable". Is anyone else getting that?

Maybe a zip code or just a bit more information might help them out? Good luck getting it back! We were having issues with ours going out on Cox Kansas constantly!

Easter still isn't narrated... You'd think they'd have recorded it and everything by now. Instead it's just "Our local forecast."
