Local Forecast / Re: IntelliStar Changes
« on: August 05, 2011, 11:51:37 AM »
There are also weather-triggered statements that can appear in the 7 day. Here are examples on the SD and HD STARs:
Any word on if they're using this feature with Don's impending landfall?
The meteorologists have to trigger those alerts, just like they do for large weather events on weather.com.

The idea is genius, I just wish it was automatic based off the forecast. Blizzard, hurricane, tornado outbreak, etc.

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Emily
« on: August 01, 2011, 10:32:06 PM »
i say emily will strike kansas city

We got 1.62" of rain all of July in Topeka. There's cracks in the ground that would swallow a buffalo. Tropical moisture wouldn't hurt. It hit 109 today here breaking a record since 1980.

On the real note of Emily: Kinda surprised TWC isn't hyping this up already... I suppose it's coming, but really hardly any mention of it now that it's become an actual storm. Maybe they don't want another Don situation making them look kinda foolish?

Our extended forecast now shows a light blue box underneath to the left of the TWC logo saying to go to weather.com for ski, health, etc information.

Edit: It cycles through messages directing to weather.com.

Anyone else getting a no report on their Weatherscan L-Bar city current obs every night about 1am that lasts up to over an hour sometimes?

I have to assume so. If not, somebody watches TWC a lot. The video wall does look crisper and not as grainy, though.

The Precip screen showed up the first day we had the IS2 but was completely unavailable... never saw it since and got told it would be showing up later. First I've seen it actually used and never have seen the other climate screen!

Star Team said it switches at 4am and 4pm. From 4am-4pm it shows Tonight. From 4pm-4am it shows the next days forecast.
Here is an example from today of what ours is doing.
Midnight-4am: Tonight (Thursday night forecast)
4pm-midnight: Local cities ticker: Friday forecast. Regional cities ticker: Thursday forecast.
That will run until midnight tonight when it switches to Tonight (Friday nights forecast.)

I don't think this is what other people's is doing it seems. :/

I wish they'd fix it if it's a known error that the ticker is showing today's forecast and tomorrow's forecast from 4pm until midnight when it switches to "Tonight". Our local cities show tomorrow's forecast then it switches to the regional cities ticker and shows the current days forecast. The day that's almost over already. Very odd, annoying and confusing all around.

Doing it on ours in Topeka, KS as well. Has been since we got it, so you're not the only one.

Alright, this is what our ticker did on Saturday 7/9 starting at Midnight Saturday. "Local" will be areas like Atchison, Carbondale, Fort Riley, etc. "Regional" will be the ticker that shows cities like Concordia, Falls City, etc.

Midnight(Saturday)-4pm(Saturday): Both local & regional show Saturday night.
4pm(Saturday)-Midnight(Sunday): Local showing Sunday forecast. Regional showing Saturday forecast.

At 12:02am Sunday both local & regional switched over to Sunday nights forecast.

This repeats every day and has been for about a month now. At 4pm it switches the local ticker to the current days forecast until midnight and the regional ticker shows the next days forecast until midnight. At that time they both switch to the next nights forecast. :(

Thanks for helping out on this.

Okay, I had to re-read it a couple times but I got it. So our ticker is messed up then. I'll check it starting at midnight and check a whole day. What you described is not what ours is doing. Will post an update over the weekend detailing our time periods.

Not to be a thorn in your side but, you hadn't mentioned anything about the ticker on Weatherscan having the forecast periods way out of whack that I reported in the first post. Just wondering if this is a known issue or if it got lost in all the other things I was enquiring about. Thanks.

It's only been happening on ours the past week or so. Ever since Atlanta got hit by storms and a lot of our products were saying unavailable. It's incredibly confusing. I was like wait, it's supposed to storm tonight? No... that's Saturday nights forecast. ...at midnight Friday...?
