I was agreeing with you. Which is what I started out saying bluntly and pretty much leaving it at that, but after about 10 re-edits it ended up just being my own rant. It was late. haha Had nothing to do with any arguments with you... cause I have none. In fact, after re-reading your post quote then what I said... I fail to see how it had nothing to do with your post. I'm sorry if you feel that way, let me know if you'd like me to remove your quote and I will gladly do so. :dunno:

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Weatherscan Topic
« on: September 15, 2011, 09:41:45 PM »
Well that's weird... we have Garden & Golf back today. They didn't show at all yesterday evening through the night. I thought it was a little too early to be switching us over to the Winter segments. Even if our forecast lows are in the 40's some nights.

I don't know what it is but something seems different on our Weatherscan. I'm also thinking we got switched over to winter segments? Our Garden and Golf segments are both gone this evening. The Outdoor Activities screen seems different, too. Maybe I just haven't been watching it much lately...? Is there a "it's late and I might actually be losing my mind" smiley somewhere?

Guys, I'm just going to be frank: this is really getting out-of-hand. First off, we don't know 100% if this is even going to be permanent. Alex said they were just "testing" something.

Second of all, I highly doubt a petition is going to help at all. TWC employees have (or at least should have) more important things to do than read a petition trying to save the LOT8s.

I'm not trying to be rude at all, in any way, but I'm honestly waiting for someone to say they're contacting a senator.

Lawsuits, trying to call a corporate office... and now petitions? Come on, guys. It sucks, it's annoying, I'm not a fan of it at all... but I honestly think most of you are more mad about the lack of music than the lack of local weather. It's The Weather Channel, not MTV. I've never talked to anyone, ever, that cared about the music they play during the LOT8's (including me) until I found this forum. They want to see the radar and what the forecast is. Let's face it, most of us are diehard TWC fans or we wouldn't care about coming to this forum. The majority of the viewing population is not. The best way to let them know you'd like the LOT8's back is to use their Feedback or Contact Us pages on weather.com.

Again, I'm not trying to be rude... but let's calm down a bit here.

Programming and Graphics / Re: Studio Upgrade/Revamp
« on: September 13, 2011, 09:49:12 PM »
This afternoon when Heather & Maria were on together they were having lots of issues with clickers and mics and they said there was work being done on their studio. They were only using a chroma key and the Digital Media Center single shot. Don't know much else besides that.

I really could care less about the music at all. I just want the information the LOT8's provides. The squeezeback needs to be redone if they're going to continue using it on a constant basis. There's a lot of empty screen space that could be utilized with information, especially on the HD feed. Just my opinion. I also don't like that the people who have XL's, etc still don't get the local info on a squeezeback. I have friends that live in Carbondale, KS with Mediacom. They don't have an Intellistar. That means they rarely get local weather information. I'm just lucky I have Weatherscan here in Topeka.

No, actually... I can't see the difference between the two pictures of the crater because it's the size of a Picture in Picture on my 42" HDTV because of the L-bar. I officially hate the L-bar. It makes me want to hit Exit on my remote because I think the program guide is on if I'm not paying attention and look over.

Anybody know what that black thing is I circled in red? Is it like a clicker or something? Kinda odd to be laying on the floor whatever it is.

If it's what I'm thinking it is, we got one at the station I worked at right before I left. Ours was basically another remote. It would clear anything the mets had drawn on while using the chroma key. I believe it had other functions, but since I left right after it was installed I never noticed.
It could also just be a marker (as in where to stand). When I clicked the image McAfee threw me to a warning page so I decided not to view it full.  :dunno:

General Discussion / Re: Radar RSS Feed

I've had absolutely no luck on this. I even tried creating my own RSS feed with no luck. Anybody know a site that has RSS feeds for weather maps at all?  :hmm:

Found this on TVnewser earlier about The Weather Channel ratings for Hurricane Irene. Thought I'd share.

For all of you missing the storm alert theme, I recorded this exactly six years ago today!

Clip 4 of Hurricane Katrina local forecast 8/28/05 7:08pm

Think there could have been any more statements on the Weather Bulletin? :P Wonder why they showed a blank page, though.

I was thinking the blank page was just due to the narration still going and it couldn't transition yet.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Re: Topeka problems again
« on: August 29, 2011, 11:45:15 AM »
Alright, this is what our ticker did on Saturday 7/9 starting at Midnight Saturday. "Local" will be areas like Atchison, Carbondale, Fort Riley, etc. "Regional" will be the ticker that shows cities like Concordia, Falls City, etc.

Midnight(Saturday)-4pm(Saturday): Both local & regional show Saturday night.
4pm(Saturday)-Midnight(Sunday): Local showing Sunday forecast. Regional showing Saturday forecast.

At 12:02am Sunday both local & regional switched over to Sunday nights forecast.

This repeats every day and has been for about a month now. At 4pm it switches the local ticker to the current days forecast until midnight and the regional ticker shows the next days forecast until midnight. At that time they both switch to the next nights forecast. :(

Thanks for helping out on this.

I just wanted to update that this is not just a problem with our Weatherscan here in Topeka. After watching a video in the Hurricane Irene thread from Alex with a montage of their Weatherscan during the storm I noticed theirs does the same. The ticker issue is a problem with more than just Topeka. So this thread can be locked now. Thanks.

Link to video in the thread (it's better than the one I took, thanks (or sorry) Alex):

General Discussion / Re: Poll - Male users: Do you ever wear pink
« on: August 27, 2011, 10:25:44 AM »
No, I don't. I'm straight. :P

Wearing pink has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with sexual orientation! I am straight as well, but I wear pink.
That was a joke, but let me rephrase. No, I don't. I'm not a pansy. :P

Let me rephrase. Nevermind, I'd like to cancel my own membership.

We have a channel called News Zone that shows the different news channels on one screen. For TWC they show the feed from Hutchinson, KS. I saw the extended forecast red box showing up on it this afternoon. All I could make out was that there were isolated thunderstorms possible that day and I thought it said something about severe weather possible. Anyone in Hutchinson see this and verify? I'm thinking this is something auto-triggered based on forecast and not something meteorologists have to trigger manually like someone had mentioned earlier.
