General Discussion / Youtube to Quiz Copyright Infringing Uploaders
« on: April 15, 2011, 09:54:40 AM »
http://www.musicweek.com/story.asp?sectioncode=1&storycode=1044941&c=1

Under increasing pressure from copyright holders in the music, film and TV industries, YouTube has introduced its Copyright School in the US. Now anyone posting content that breaks copyright will have to watch an education video and pass a quiz to be allowed to post video files again.

The video features cartoon characters Happy Tree Friends and a slightly tongue-in-cheek voiceover that warns users their account will be terminated if they infringe copyright. It also explains how fair use applies in the US as well as what content users can and cannot upload.

YouTube is now imposing a 'three strikes' policy when receiving copyright complaints. Users can erase strikes against their account by complying with YouTube's terms.

Glad i'm pitching my uploads from now on so i don't have to go through that BS.

Everything Else TWC / TWC's new Rival?
« on: April 01, 2011, 09:06:00 AM »
http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/466013-WeatherNation_TV_Cuts_Distribution_Deal_with_NCTC.php

In a move that will create more competition in the weather news programming sector, the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) and WeatherNation TV, Inc. have reached a new, long-term agreement for carriage of WeatherNation.

As part of this deal, NCTC members will be able to launch the 24 hour weather news service to their subscribers in the second quarter of 2011.

"Members have asked for options in their choice of weather networks, and we are pleased to provide our members an agreement with WeatherNation," noted Frank Hughes, senior VP of programming for NCTC in a statement. "This new service provides excellent weather coverage at a very reasonable cost, helping members fight against ever-increasing programming costs."

The launch of the new channel grew out of a 2010 deal by Performance One Media to acquire the rights to the trademarks and brand from WeatherNation, a provider of centralized weather services for local stations and web sites around the U.S.

That company has been rebranded as Broadcast Weather. It continues to providing weather feeds from its centralized studios to a number of stations and web sites around the country and is producing the weather news programming for the new weather channel, WeatherNation, using HD studios and staff of meteorologists located ath Broadcast Weather's Excelsior Minnesota facility.

The initial carriage deal with NCTC is for a national weather service but the company ultimately plans to offer the option of customizing the service to local markets, notes Michael Norton, vice president, of WeatherNation TV, who expects to announce additional carriage deals in the upcoming months

At launch, WeatherNation TV, which is headquartered in Denver Colorado, will offer a weather news format 24 hours a day that will not be interrupted by documentary, entertainment or reality programming, Norton says.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / #22622 Local Forecast (City Switch) Request
« on: January 20, 2011, 11:39:48 AM »
Hey Star Team,

Many residents in my area have asked the local comcast branch for this request (but got a workaround) so i decided to post it here if you could help.

Since 22622 is the Fall River, MA IntelliStar Could Fall River or Somerset (Closest location) become the Primary and receive Local Forecast,Air Quality,Almanac, Current Conditions, 7day etc?

Instead of New Bedford which is 25 minutes away and shows completely different conditions from what was supposed to be the primary location Fall River (due to New Bedford being the primary Fall River is always left out from the forecast which gives a false sense of security to viewers when forecasts for New Bedford are shown instead of Fall River.)

Example: Sunday Morning Fall River was -4 Degrees while New Bedford was 2,

and Monday Morning Fall River was -5 with Sunny Skies while New Bedford was 0 with Fair Skies.

below is a video of the differentiating conditions between the 2 Areas

Snow and Thunder Fall River, MA IntelliStar Blizzard of '11

also please if you could swap Fall River and New Bedford's Places on the LDL

and finally change Fall River on the 8 City current Conditions to New Bedford?

Thanks Star Team, for everyone in Fall River we do appreciate all you do for viewers.

Post all Potential Snowstorm and Winter Weather here for all Quadrants of the County

Northeast Socked until February?

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2011/0118/Winter-mess-socks-Northeast-more-snow-storms-stacked-behind-it
Quote
“We are having a prolonged cold spell,” says meteorologist Henry Margusity, a severe weather expert at Accu-weather.com in State College, Pa. “We normally get some thawing in January.” He is predicting that the Northeast will be hit with another major winter storm this coming Friday. At the moment he expects another 6 to 8 inches of snow. But, it could be a lot more as it heads toward New England.

“It could bring significant precipitation,” he warns, since the storms have shown a propensity to intensify just off Cape Cod.

That won’t be the only snow. By Tuesday of next week another storm will roll in followed by another storm later in the week.

“This will last right until February, we’re just stacked with snow storms,” says Margusity. “Even I am getting tired of it.”
