Hi Alex,
As you know, the music on The Weather Channel has been evolving over the last several years toward a more appropriate play list. The music played during full-screen Local on the 8s on The Weather Channel during the afternoon and morning day parts continues to adapt. We do not foresee smooth jazz selections in future playlists. Going forward, our music team will keep investigating different genres to stay fresh and align with The Weather Channel brand.
As always, all BMI-licensed music, as well as unregistered music (with appropriate approval from the musician) will be considered.

The old playlists were perfectly fine. What difference does it make to have smooth jazz completely removed? :(
younger audience, more views, and $$

I don't think the younger audience is to blame, its the older audience looking for a new national geographic/discovery channel who we should really be mad at. Don't be surprised if TWC is becoming Fuse or MTV also with this rock music.

SOPA and PIPA dropped by Congress in wake of largest online protest in history

It's just sickening how Congress loves to change something that isn't even broken.

Here was the list of who supported and opposed the bill

62 Support and co-sponsors to 187 Opponents and "Leaning No"

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Airport delay reasons
« on: January 20, 2012, 05:32:57 PM »
Does anyone still ever see reasons for delays on their airport segments anymore? Here, in the past year or two, all I have ever seen is "other" when there's a delay being reported, regardless of what is going on (fog, enroute thunderstorms, low ceilings, snow, volume, etc).

They should make an upgrade to the Airport segment that would allow to show a nationwide delays map instead of leaving the area blank.

Hopefully this experiment fails.

This same experiement failed in both 2009 and 2010, i don't see why 2012 would make a difference.  :pinch:

Petition time!  ;)

i don't think a petition will work, if TWC wants to change the music just let them do it.

TWC has been going through a Playlist Transition phase since April 2009 so i don't see why this kind of playlist is a surprise to anyone.

Smooth jazz has been permanently removed from the playlists.

We all knew Smooth Jazz had it's days numbered on TWC  :hmm:

What is up with all of the rock music?  :club:

I would say TWC didn't pay particularly close attention to any of the 2011 Jazz CD's that came out which lead to a basically all rock list. hopefully with new 2012 Jazz CD's to come out by March there would be a more Smooth blended list.

According to a reliable source, the full list does not come out until sometime next week. The songs you're hearing are extra songs from the playlist tossed into the mix. The rotation issues would be solved once the songs play in their appropriate dayparts in the full playlist

Which basically means there is nothing they can do right now to fix this rotation flub
