Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Isaac
« on: August 25, 2012, 03:54:32 PM »
Irene was a major hurricane, of course not on landfall but it was. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it was once forecast to hit NC as a Cat 3, contradicting the fact that they use storm alert for major hurricanes only.

They may only use it when a hurricane is forecast to strike as a Cat 3 or higher. That said, they would have used it last year with Irene when it was a major hurricane.

They didn't do it last year for Irene but who knows about this time around.  :dunno:

Ok, here is another inaccurate reading. The forecast only called for a high in the middle to upper 80's for the Poughkeepsie area. I don't understand how you can have two inaccurate temperature readings for two consecutive observations.

89.3°F Partly Cloudy
Dew Point: 72.0°F
Heat Index: 97.1°F

Very surprised at the airport obs at KISP, 85°F Overcast, but there isn't many clouds when I look in towards the direction of the airport, furthermore, we usually don't get temps that warm when it's overcast.

Still have 14 and a half days of summer vacation. My school doesn't start until September 5th. You'd think with such a late start date, the classes will end late too; not so here, classes end at the beginning of June.

Winter Weather / Re: 2012-2013 Winter Outlook
« on: August 15, 2012, 10:11:35 PM »
I will be confident about this winter's forecast if we were able to predict the NAO values to far out dates. Being that the NAO is the prominent force in controlling winters in the US, it's way too early to see what will happen. Usually you can tell by the end of October what the winter is going to be like. For example, signs such as a early season snowstorm tend to lead to warmer winters, like what happened in the 2011-2012 winter season.

Everyday in August has been in the 80's, not one day in the 70's, not one day in the 90's. Now that's what I call a perfect climate

Avg. High: 84°F
Avg. Low: 71°F
Avg. Mean: 77°F
Avg. Dew Point: 70°F
