High resolution computer models have a decent band of snow showers coming through tonight. Possibly up to an inch or two of snow. Might have a white christmas. :snow:

Wow!

NYC Sets Winter Record High Minimum Temperature…

New York City had a low temperature of 61° on December 22, 2013. That is the first time during meteorological or astronomical winter that the temperature did not fall below 60°. The low temperature was 3.628σ above the normal low temperature for the date (1981-2010 baseline). The old record high minimum temperature during either meteorological or astronomical winter was 59°, which was achieved on January 4, 1950 and December 4, 1998.

The previous latest 60° or above low temperature before meteorological and astronomical winter had occurred on November 27, 1896 (60°). The previous earliest 60° or above low temperature after meteorological or astronomical winter had occurred on March 25, 1913 (61°).

New York City’s records go back to 1869.

This is absolutely absurd.  850mb temps right now are around 17C, which is above normal, EVEN IF THIS WAS JULY! If we were able to completely mix down from 850mb, our temps would be in the mid 80's! Central Park hit 68 degrees this morning, smashing the record, BEFORE THE SUN EVEN CAME UP. I'm sorry, but this is sickening how bad the climate has gotten.

Forecasting / Re: Fall/Winter Weather Discussion Thread

Places to the S&W of me are picking up a good amount of snow. Places around Philly are nearing 10" of snow! Good for them. They usually get rain when we get big snow storms. Only looking at around 1" tonight before we go to all rain. That ocean...

Isn't it supposed to change over to rain there also?

In some parts yes. Places more west further away from the coastal low and WAA may stay as sleet and freezing rain. I just measured 0.9" and it looks to be done for now. Some freezing rain then rain later.

But now that many places in SE PA and S NJ picked up a decent amount, that may help keep the cold low level air in place more than the models depicted.
