AFTER A LOOK AT ALL THE GFS ENSEMBLE MEMBERS...HIGH CONFIDENCE IN
DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE OCCURRING SOMEWHERE OVER THE WESTERN
ATLANTIC. GGEM AND ECMWF ALSO SUPPORT THIS...WITH MODELS BEGINNING
TO COME TOGETHER ON A TRACK. HOWEVER...IT IS STILL HARD TO PINPOINT
EXACT FORECAST DETAILS AT THIS TIME DUE TO TIMING/POSITIONAL
DIFFERENCES...BUT CONFIDENCE IS GROWING FOR A POTENTIAL HEAVY
RAIN/MIXED PRECIP AND HIGH/STRONG WIND EVENT.

COASTAL FLOODING AND BEACH EROSION IS A CONCERN. PLEASE SEE THE
TIDES AND COASTAL FLOODING SECTION.

STRONG...GUSTY WINDS ARE BECOMING MORE LIKELY. SUSTAINED SPEEDS
RANGING BETWEEN 20-35 MPH WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 45 TO 60 MPH IS A
DEFINITE POSSIBILITY.
HIGHEST WINDS WILL BE AT THE COAST AND IN
HIGHER TERRAIN.

Oh great! School on election day! Well, we had a whole week off but still, it's election day, they couldn't have chosen anything else? I hope they run out of gas for those buses geesh.  <_<

Just out of curiosity, why would you get Election Day off? It's not a holiday or anything.

We have election day off so teachers have time available to vote. Some teachers here have busy lives and don't have much time to vote. Now since my school district wants to make up days, we now have school on election day. Most public schools around the country have election day off from what I heard.

... Chilly temperatures expected tonight...

A chilly airmass will begin to overspread the region tonight. Low
temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 30s tonight. Those
without power should prepare for a cold night. Contact your local
officials if shelter is needed.

I really think the media should be covering more of LI because NJ wasn't the only place effected by this storm

Sandy vs. Irene

..so is anyone ready for it to get dark before 6 PM tomorrow?  :P
I'm definitely not. I hate when the days end early and it's worse here. Today's sunset is 5:46PM, tomorrow's will be 4:45PM. That's way too early. I don't care how bright it is in the morning, I just want the evenings to be bright. I want to be able to go outside at 6PM and actually be able to see. Not anymore.

The only problem I have with the graphic is that some of the numbers will unfortunately keep rising such as the cost and the death toll so it's too early to start comparing when it's not completely over. Also, to put Irene in the picture wasn't a bad idea IMO. I compared this storm to Irene and Sandy was definitely worse. Irene was the most recent natural disaster to hit the northeast so people would compare it to Sandy. I will actually make my own little graphic of Irene compared to Sandy and post it tomorrow in my "Long Island Weather" thread.

Also, I don't know if anyone else noticed on the graph for Max US. Rainfall/Snowfall that even though Sandy had only 12.6" of max rain, the bar graph is higher than Irene's, which has 15" of max rainfall.

I also want to make a quick note how the media is mainly focusing on NJ and NYC rather than LI and SNE. Bad media, bad :(

Got power back. Gas stations are running out of gas and people are starting to get very desperate around here.

We got the highest winds from this storm as a LLJ set up over LI with 110mph winds. Highest sustained winds here in Islip were 56mph gusting to 90mph, highest wind gust on the island was 96mph. Still without power here. The damage here was way worse than Irene, Fire Island will never be the same again. The worse hurricane here since the 1938 hurricane.

Complete devistation here on LI. It's almost like Katrina here but a little less.
