  ISLAND...COASTAL PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT...HUDSON
  COUNTY...AND SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER COUNTY.

* HAZARDS...STRONG WINDS.

* WINDS...WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 55 MPH. WINDS
  WILL BE NORTHEAST WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...AND THEN BECOME NORTH
  WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

* TIMING...THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL OCCUR WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH
  THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS...THESE WINDS COULD BRING DOWN TREE BRANCHES AND
  LIMBS...AS WELL AS DAMAGE POWER LINES. DRIVING WILL BE
  DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY ON ELEVATED ROADWAYS AND BRIDGES FOR HIGH
  PROFILE VEHICLES.

February 2013 was the snowiest February on record here. Islip had a lot more than I did this month due to the immense gradient from the Blizzard of 2013. Also the first time since January 2011 where we had a month with no 50F+ days.

Temp wise, it doesn't feel like spring. But the longer days are already giving me a spring feel. I can't wait for daylight savings time. Our snow chances aren't done yet either. I love snow but I just want winter to end already.

At 237 PM EST...National Weather Service Doppler radar in Upton NY indicated an area of light to locally moderate showers along a line extending from Hauppauge to Brookhaven National laboratory...moving northeast at 10 mph. Showers should be in the vicinity of... East Moriches...Brookhaven National laboratory around 250 PM... Manorville around 255 PM... Nesconset around 300 PM... St. James...middle Country Road...Lake Grove around 305 PM... Head of the Harbor...Selden around 310 PM... Middle Island...Coram...Centereach around 315 PM... These showers are expected to last around one hour before tapering off.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect until 11 am EST this morning.

* Locations... Suffolk County.

* Hazards... strong gusty winds.

* Winds... east 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph.

* Timing... the strongest winds will be this morning.

* Impacts... strong gusty winds will make driving difficult at
times... especially for high profile vehicles. Winds of this
strength can also bring down some larger branches and a few tree
limbs.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph...
or gusts of 46 to 57 mph... are expected or occurring. Winds this
strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile
vehicles. Use extra caution.

Hey Patrick, can you explain what this meteorologist means when he refers to "wavelengths". I don't think he's referring to wavelengths like with solar radiation, something different. After a Google search, this is the best definition I could find:

To be honest, I don't clearly understand what that means. What does he mean when he refers to wavelengths being shorter in March than December? I wonder if he is referring to solar radiation. IDK   :wacko:
