Forecasting / Re: Spring/Summer Weather Discussion Thread
« on: July 03, 2013, 06:23:17 PM »
I think places in Canada along the south western side of the Hudson Bay are having some of their hottest temps ever. Some places are in the mid 90's right now. Ft. Severn had a low of 38F this morning and is currently at 93. The Hudson Bay itself has be in the 30's with some patches of ice on it, yet just inland it's in the 90's. Crazy.

Forecasting / Re: Spring/Summer Weather Discussion Thread
« on: July 03, 2013, 09:04:22 AM »
Weather has been kinda Meh here. I guess it's because I'm so used to the extreme weather we've been experiencing the past few years. 2010 had records snow in the winter, record heat in the summer, 2011 was just like 2010, but with Hurricane Irene, 2012 was by far the best (since I like extreme weather), though we had a remarkably warm winter, the summer was packed with tons of severe weather, microbursts, tornadoes, then Hurricane Sandy which is a storm I'll likely never experience again. Now it's 2013, the only real extreme event was the blizzard back in February, other than that it has been cold. In recent weeks it has gotten warmer and more humid. Forecast for the next seven days is perfect. Warm and humid, not one low below 70.

Today A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Tonight A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm. Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Independence Day Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Southwest wind 8 to 15 mph.
Thursday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind 6 to 15 mph.
Friday Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph.
Friday Night Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 72.
Saturday Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 88.
Saturday Night Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 72.
Sunday Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 87.
Sunday Night Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.
Monday Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 92.

« on: July 03, 2013, 08:57:09 AM »
Glad to see this issue resolved. I've stayed off the website when Norton first stated giving me warnings. Then Google Chrome started giving me warnings. Now that I checked this morning, it's all clear. Sorry Patrick for not being able to respond back to your messages lately, been kinda busy with other stuff.

Makes me wonder, does anyone know what the highest min-temp ever recorded on Earth is?

75.2°F Overcast

With deep southerly flow from a trough to our west and the western Atlantic ridge to our east, the next couple of weeks look warm and humid. Might not have a low below 70 for a while with water temps now in the low 70's. Highs will be in the low to mid 80's with chances of thunderstorms everyday. Boring.

75.2°F Overcast

Yawn . Boring weather, haven't had a severe TS in over a year already. I've seen better thunderstorms in December and January than I've seen this entire June. The last official severe storm here was back on June 22, 2012 with a 65mph downburst.

Meh...

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from Thursday afternoon through
Friday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in New York has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of southern Connecticut...
northeast New Jersey and southeast New York... including the
following areas... in southern Connecticut... northern
Fairfield... northern Middlesex... northern New Haven... northern
New London... southern Fairfield... southern Middlesex...
southern New Haven and southern New London. In northeast New
Jersey... eastern Bergen... eastern Essex... eastern Passaic...
eastern Union... Hudson... western Bergen... western Essex...
western Passaic and western Union. In southeast New York...
Bronx... Kings (Brooklyn)... New York (Manhattan)... northeastern
Suffolk... northern Nassau... northern Queens... northern
Westchester... northwestern Suffolk... Orange... Putnam...
Richmond (staten island)... Rockland... southeastern Suffolk...
southern Nassau... southern Queens... southern Westchester and
southwestern Suffolk.

* From Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon

* a slow moving low pressure system will track north from the Ohio
Valley into the St Lawrence River valley Thursday afternoon into
Friday. Heavy showers and thunderstorms will become increasingly
likely Thursday afternoon into Thursday night as this system
interacts with a moist and unstable airmass over the area. This
activity will continue into Friday.

* This setup is conducive to bands of heavy rain showers and
thunderstorms training over the same area. Localized rainfall
rates could exceed 2 inches in an hour if thunderstorms train
over the same area for an hour... which would cause Urban and
Small Stream flash flooding.

* Overall 1 to 2 inches of rainfall are expected across the area
Thursday into Friday... with higher amounts in the path of
training activity. This will likely cause marked rises on main
Stem rivers... but they are expected to remain within their
banks.

* Additional bouts of heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible
this weekend into early next week... which may prolong the threat
for flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

GFS wants to bring a strong tropical storm/hurricane from the GOM up the east coast just in time for the 4th of July. This time I'm not buying yet. Euro not even hinting a tropical development in that time frame.
