Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Dorian
« on: July 24, 2013, 12:13:11 PM »
Ugh.. I really hope that tropical disturbance the GFS keeps showing 384 hours out entering the Caribbean doesn't form. I'm going to be in the Keys around that time and the last thing I want any tropical disturbance to be around, even if it's remnants.

At least it'll be just a tropical storm. Don't see this thing becoming too strong.  Tropical storms are pretty over rated though.

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through this evening...

The National Weather Service in New York has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of southern Connecticut...
northeast New Jersey and southeast New York... including the
following areas... in southern Connecticut... northern
Fairfield... northern Middlesex... northern New Haven... northern
New London... southern Fairfield and southern New Haven. In
northeast New Jersey... eastern Bergen... eastern Essex...
eastern Passaic... eastern Union... Hudson... western Bergen...
western Essex... western Passaic and western Union. In
southeast New York... Bronx... Kings (Brooklyn)... New York
(Manhattan)... northern Nassau... northern Queens... northern
Westchester... northwestern Suffolk... Orange... Putnam...
Richmond (staten island)... Rockland... southern Nassau...
southern Queens... southern Westchester and southwestern
Suffolk.

* Through this evening.

* Showers and thunderstorms late Monday night had already produced
localized amounts of over 2 inches in parts of southwestern
Connecticut. Additional showers and thunderstorms are expected
today... especially this afternoon... as weak low pressure and an
associated warm front lift northward into the region... any of
which could produce very heavy rain and flash flooding.

* Individual showers or thunderstorms could produce 1 to 2 inches
of rain in an hour or less. Localized rainfall of up to 4 inches
is possible where showers and thunderstorms repeatedly move
over the same areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Another TS bust. Nothing more than just showers with embedded thunder. I haven't had one thunderstorm this entire year!, except for one thundershower in April.

General Discussion / Re: Computer and Hardware Chat
« on: July 20, 2013, 11:36:52 AM »
I've been having some big problems with Chrome the past couple of days. Every time I load certain YouTube videos, I see the loading circle snake. The video doesn't play, and about 10 seconds later, my computer freezes and I'm forced to manually reboot it (can't Ctrl+Alt+Del or anything else after freezing).

I've tried everything (disabled certain plugins, disabled Chrome's hardware acceleration, tried getting help from online, etc.) but I still keep getting computer freezes. Anybody have any idea on what I should next?

Please note that I don't wish to use to Firefox or IE because those browsers are way slower than Chrome IMO.

My system is a Windows 7 64-bit PC, if that helps. The version of Chrome that I'm having trouble with is the recent version (June or July 2013).

Did you try deleting the cache? My Chrome sometimes locks up on certain webpages, but after I delete the cache, it doesn't do it anymore.

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect from 11 am this
morning to 8 PM EDT this evening...

* locations... northeast New Jersey... southwest Connecticut... lower
Hudson River valley... and western half of Long Island.

* Hazards... combination of high levels of heat and humidity.

* Heat index values... up to 108 due to temperatures in the lower
90s... and dewpoints in the lower 70s.

* Timing... highest heat index values will occur during the
afternoon and early evening hours.

* Impacts... if no protective action is taken... initial impacts
include fatigue. Sunstroke... muscle cramps... and/or heat
exhaustion or heat stroke are also possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning is issued when the combination of heat
and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 105 degrees
or greater. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time
outside. When possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early
morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting
clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency... call 9 1 1.
