:snow: Light Snow and 27 °F.  Winds S at 3 mph.  Snowfall total is 4.9".  :twothumbs:

27.2°F Partly Cloudy/Very Windy
Winchill: 11°F

Red Flag Warning in effect
Wind Advisory in effect

Red flag warnings don't sound like they go with cold weather.  I guess it's because of the wind, but still, that sounds like crazy weather.  :noexpression:

Yeah that's what I think. But you can still get fires no matter what the temp. The humidity and dew points are extremely low today. Plus were in a deep drought. My dew is currently at -3°F with a temp of 30.1°F. There were two major fires today, one in NJ and one right near me on LI. The smoke cloud actually traveled over me. Our neighborhood was so smokey.

... Red flag warning in effect from 10 am to 6 PM EST Sunday for
conditions favorable for the rapid spread of wildfires...

The National Weather Service in New York has issued a red flag
warning for conditions favorable for the rapid spread of
wildfires... which is in effect from 10 am to 6 PM EST Sunday.

* Affected area... lower Hudson Valley... New York City... Long
Island... northeast New Jersey... and southern Connecticut.

* Winds... northwest 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* Relative humidity... as low as 25 percent.

* Timing... from late morning into the afternoon on Sunday.

* Impacts... rapid fire spread if ignition occurs.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are expected or occurring. A combination of strong winds... low
relative humidity... and dry fuels will create explosive fire
growth potential.

... Dry weather will enhance wildfire spread today...

While there was some light rainfall across the region in the last
24 hours... conditions will dry out quickly this afternoon.

This combined with extremely dry fuels... gusty northwest winds
up to 25 mph... and relative humidity values of 30 to 35 percent
will enhance the risk of wildfire spread... if ignited.

site at weather.Gov/NYC for further details and updates.

... Dry weather will enhance brush fire spread today...

North winds at 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph until noon will
gradually veer to the northeast and decrease this afternoon.

Humidities will decrease and range from 25 to 35 percent this
afternoon as a very dry Canadian air mass moves across the region.

The combination of low humidities... winds and available fine fuels...
will cause an enhanced spread of brush fires... if ignited... through
today.

site at weather.Gov/NYC for further details and updates.

A strong... quick moving cold front is forecast to move across the
tri-state region early Monday morning. This front is expected to
bring a narrow line of showers and thunderstorms capable of
producing localized damaging wind gusts. Much of the area will
see gusty winds develop after midnight with gusts of 30 to 40
mph... with the highest gusts coming along and just ahead of the
cold front.

This front is expected to impact the lower Hudson Valley and
northeast New Jersey between 3 and 5 am... and then from New York
City and points east between 5 and 9 am.

Behind the front... gusty west winds will continue through much of
Monday.

... Breezy and dry conditions will enhance brush fire spread
today...

Relative humidity is expected to decrease to around 30 percent by
this afternoon... while wind gusts will be 20 to 25 mph.

This combination of weather conditions... along with the dry
landscape will cause an enhanced spread of brush fires... if there
was ignition.

Long Island is under a freeze warning tonight. Other than NYC, we are the only place in the area that has yet to have a good freeze, with the exception of the pine barrens of LI which see epic radiational cooling temps. Tonight we'll have our first freeze but even with a wind off the water, temps will only drop to the upper 20's to around 30.
