... High surf advisory in effect from midnight tonight to midnight
EST Wednesday night...
* locations... Atlantic facing beaches... and low lying coastal
locales along the Great South Bay.
* Waves and surf... 7 to 11 ft breaking surf at the Atlantic facing
beaches.
* Beach erosion impacts... the combination of storm tide and high
surf will cause minor beach erosion issues late tonight through
late Wednesday night. Particularly susceptible locations will be
around Gilgo Beach... and Post Sandy breaches.
* Tidal departures... 2 to 2 1/2 ft above astronomical tides.
* Coastal flood impacts... localized flooding of the most
vulnerable shore roads and/or basements due to height of storm
tide and heavy rainfall during times of high tide between 3 am
and 6 am. There is no significant threat to life and any impact
on property is minimal.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

... Flood Watch in effect from midnight EST tonight through
Wednesday afternoon...
The National Weather Service in New York has issued a
* Flood Watch for all of southern Connecticut... southeast New York
and northeast New Jersey...
* from midnight EST tonight through Wednesday afternoon.
* Low pressure over the southeast states late this afternoon will
intensify and move up the coast tonight... passing over the area
on Wednesday. The low will tap into Gulf and Atlantic moisture
to produce heavy rainfall mainly from late tonight into
Wednesday morning.
* Rainfall of 2 to 3 inches... with local amounts of up to 4 inches
in and near the higher terrain north and west of New York
City... is likely to cause significant urban... low lying and poor
drainage flooding at a time when many Holiday travelers may
already be heading to their destinations. Many small streams
will approach bank full... and some may experience minor
flooding.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.
