Another source says that the TV network WOULD be included in the sale.

I guess all of this will become more clear soon IF this transaction doesn't fall through. Frankly, I'm not sure how the network could exist by itself, without being attached to the website, app, etc.

No, it doesn't.

The Weather Company has been mulling a variety of such plans for more than a year, as has been widely reported, talking to a number of different parties about buying either parts or all of its troika of assets.

Those include: The product and technology division, which offers a range of digital weather information via apps and websites and also data sets; the television division, with the flagship cable property, the Weather Channel; and a large meteorological team, providing weather forecasting for a variety of consumer and also business sectors such as aviation.

It says that the weather company has thought of selling all or part of it's assets. It the lists all of their assets. All reports are saying IBM won't buy the network.

This worries me:

Nonetheless Weather Channel has one of the most widely distributed weather apps, which is the draw for IBM. The Journal also reported that IBM is keenly interested in its weather-forecasting operation. Weather CEO David Kenny is expected to join IBM.

So that leaves the channel, which won't have a website or app...

Still doesn't include the channel, only it's digital and data assets.

Trying to find more information on it. Would this include the app and weather.com website? Or just wunderground.com? What would happen to WUTV? How would selling off the data services impact TWC?

I would love to see, if this goes through, the weather channel rebuild on it's own as a powerhouse of weather knowledge by it's meteorologists, centered around them rather than around technology and gimmicks.

IMO they need to rebrand as just "Weather". It would sell the primary focus on weather, as well as open them up to making a new identity and brand focused on a symbol that would be tied to the weather channel. Something similar to the way the clouds and raindrops are on WUTV, but more professional, but friendly. The Weather Channel as a brand is tainted IMO. If they focus on weather, while still using "The Weather Channel", i don't think it'll make much of a difference.

So.. I'm finally getting local forecasts in HD on the bottom ticker, and the LOT8s starts off with the introduction including my city name, then they show the current conditions for my city, but right after it goes back to the national feed. Anyone else have this happen?

edit: never mind its normal now, I'm guessing they just had issues since it's the first time.

If there's one thing i've learned, is that storm mode is never complete. I've never seen a storm alert mode that was completely one color.

How come when sometimes TWC is covering severe t-storms with tornadoes (like what's happening right now on the east coast) they don't activate Storm Alert mode? 

One thing I find interesting is they mention they are in "storm mode" or even yesterday they said "we have gone all red", and they use the black and red graphics in the background, yet they don't change the graphics on screen to the black and red.

not bad so far, seemed a little choppy but thats normal. his relaxed pace isnt fitting in to their scheme, hopefully they acclimate to him, instead of the other way around.

While many teenagers her age tune into pop culture networks like MTV, 18 year-old, Gabrielle Poincot keeps her eyes glued to The Weather Channel.

Every morning the aspiring meteorologist turns on her favorite show, “Wake Up With Al,” to watch Stephanie Abrams, co-host and her longtime Weather Channel idol, do what she does best — report the weather. However, the H.L. Bourgeois High School senior never thought she would receive a video from Abrams congratulating her on achieving the Terrebonne Parish’s High School Student of the Year.

“When I was told I had a message from Stephanie, I was in total shock. It was so exciting. I watch the show every morning, and I watched it this morning at 4:45,” Poincot said last week. “I texted the link to my dad, and he was like, ‘Wait, what is that?’ and I was like, ‘Dad, watch the video,’ and he was still confused about what it was for and I said, ‘Dad she saw my Student of the Year article.’ He thought it was so amazing and started texting everybody.”

Poincot’s love of meteorology is the result of living in a hurricane-prone area, she said. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, her curiosity to know the weekly forecast grew into a passion she plans on turning into a life-long career.

When Abrams read that the young fan was well on her way to following in her footsteps she immediately wanted to reach out, said The Weather Channel’s communications director Maureen Marshal. It was then that “Wake Up With Al” host Al Roker recorded a video message with Abrams to congratulate Poincot on being Student of the Year.

“The fact that I inspired someone to follow their dreams, especially a girl into science, makes my year. It was an honor to hear that I was part of her motivation to become a meteorologist,” Abrams said. “My best advice is to work hard, do what you’re passionate about (in all aspects of your life), try new things, never give up and find happiness, love and peace from within.”

Poincot’s mother, Susan, said the video has motivated her daughter even more to achieve her dream of one day becoming an on-camera meteorologist. She said her daughter plans to attend Mississippi State University this fall where she hopes to earn a degree in broadcast meteorology.

“I was actually in the doctor’s office, and of course I shared all the news with everyone who was in there, and then I sent the link out to everybody in the family in a massive message,” Susan Poincot said. “It’s just awesome. I can’t believe they actually took the time to do that. It’s great.”
