« on: August 29, 2007, 04:30:21 PM »
I won't get that detailed. However, here's a rough draft of sorts.

Weekdays:

7-9 AM
CommuteCast AM (Similar to YWT)

9-11 AM
Weather Center AM

11 AM-4 PM
Weather Center Daytime

4-6 PM
CommuteCast PM (Similar to YWT)

6-7 PM
Beyond the Forecast (Lose the "Abrams and Bettes," please)

7-8 PM
Special Programming (Storm Stories, Epic Conditions, It Could Happen Tomorrow, etc.  Possibly rotating each day?)

8-11 PM

Don't ask about weekends...they're not my forte.

The IntellISTAR just doesn't have the "classic" feel to it. Even the WeatherSTAR XL V3 retains a bit of the classic feeling, considering its kiln to the XL V1.

The voice-over itself is not so bad. I enjoyed the voice-over during its early days, when "your" was used instead of "our," and the forecast was not read.

I'm fairly sure Adam Berg worked at WLOS in Asheville a few years ago. The locals hated him. I'm not a big fan of him, either...though I never saw him during his WLOS days.

Edit: Whoops. It wasn't Adam Berg...it was Mike Bettes.  :-[

General Discussion / Re: Music Editing in WMV?
« on: August 27, 2007, 08:28:14 PM »
You can edit music in WMM, but it cant have video. It just has to be a mp3 or wma etc..
I have. I just slide the video clip into the sound slot. It works fine. Though, I believe it was in .avi.

My software doesn't accept certain Windows file types (such as .wmv), and only exports as .avi or two other unknown file types. Meaning, I can't edit in Movie Maker prior to adding my watermark...so I have to save the entire recorded file again. This takes SO much time. Otherwise, anything and everything I had would be watermarked.

A simple add-in in Movie Maker can cut-down on stolen videos tremendously. Unfortunately, I'm afraid many would turn their nose at that as well.

Some folks don't get it...you can't completely lock out the thieves, so take measures to protect yourself. In this case, that would include slight mods in WMM or watermarking your videos.  :(

Actually, with advancing technology, there's a greater chance of someone having a rare clip from the "modern" era. VHS tapes lose quality over time...and 20 year-old tapes are not young, by any standards. They will degrade over time.

IF we see a US-landfalling hurricane this season, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll have plenty of clips from it.

Gary, you and I both know that there are tons of videos on YouTube of modern TWC coverage. Is there any way to politely invite them to the site? I know some may hesitate to contribute due to the threat of video-stealing. Another idea I came up with is posting an article or a link to an article on the main page on how to create your own watermark and edit it into your video. I've got a link I learned from...but the software is a bit annoying. I'm still searching for alternatives.

Gary,

Hang in there bro. The cyberworld can be a tough cookie.

Please, take this all as nothing but suggestions...I do like the site, very much so.

As far as foruming goes...in my experience, sites with large off-topic sections and a small member base end up self-destructing, simply because members were too busy "chatting" and not contributing to relevant threads.

If I'm just a general TV viewer, I probably don't know what "TWC" is. I know of "The Weather Channel," but I probably don't comprehend that "TWC" is short for "The Weather Channel." I notice that you banner image and site title all refer to "TWC." Changing the title to "The Weather Channel Today: Home" might attract more viewers. Also, a quick statement on the home page explaining exactly what TWC stands for might be helpful.

I love the forum header image...especially because it contains the TWC logo. Something similar for the homepage and corresponding secondary pages would probably look better. This isn't something you have to do...I might be able to come up with something if you wish. (I think something similar to the IntelliSTAR header would look great...and would go along with the theme as well)

Again, this is just a few things that might help a bit. Take it however you wish...it's intended as nothing more than a few friendly suggestions. In the meantime, I'll keep tabs on TWC...trying to catch any odd errors that might become great contributions.

EDIT: I just want to add...this site has quite a selection of music, videos, and other interesting items relating to TWC. You've done a brilliant job thus far, and I would love to see the site continue.

Contributions / Re: Matt (ErnestoAlert's) Contributions
« on: August 26, 2007, 06:32:26 PM »
Just to add on...I tried to upload my copies (original files) with the upload form, to no avail. I get an error page when I try. If you want to use these, I'll either post the clips or I can e-mail them. If you don't have a use for them, that's cool too. I'll leave them on YouTube for anyone who wants to see them.

Here are a couple of videos from a wild night of Weather Channel error.

Local Forecast / Re: What Weather STAR systems have you seen live?
« on: August 21, 2007, 04:36:22 PM »
Comcast has provided the 4000, the XL (V1 and V2), and the IntelliSTAR. I've seen a V3 in action, as well.

Comcast never had a JR here. As far as stars I-III...I never paid attention to The Weather Channel that far back...thus, I have no precise recollection of any of the three.

Everything Else TWC / Re: When do you most watch TWC?
« on: August 11, 2007, 12:00:54 PM »
I don't turn to TWC during severe weather.  Local stations, by far, have the most clear, complete coverage. (duh :P)
I rarely see any severe weather coverage on my local channels. Ever. Even during an extremely rare tornado warning, they'll cut-in for a minute during commercials, and go back to normal programming. I'm more likely to see mention of local severe weather on The Weather Channel than I am on my local affiliates. (ESPECIALLY the local CBS affiliate)

Back on-topic:
I usually watch TWC in the morning, prior to leaving for work. I actually forecast the weather myself, but I like to see their take on the forecast. Plus, I don't always have time to get on the computer to check radar and local observations, so the LF fills that gap.

Local Forecast / Re: What STAR where?

I have the pleasure () of seeing an IntelliSTAR every 10 minutes.

I do know that Comcast in Sevierville, TN still uses the WeatherSTAR XL.

Programming and Graphics / Re: Worst TWC show ever
« on: August 10, 2007, 11:53:22 PM »
Uhhh...Where have you been? Of course we can do something about it...
No scientist can be sure of how the earth was thousands of years ago. Claims of warming at a pace faster than normal doesn't hold any value unless you have precise data from the very early years of the earth. Of course, that is humanly impossible. Truly, only God knows precisely what the earth was like long ago. Of course, if you don't believe, that statement holds no value either.

Thus, this may be a completely natural process...meaning there's little if anything humans can do to reverse the warming.

Everything flowed together with my comment of how The Weather Channel has changed quite a bit.

If Forecast Earth preempts any hurricane coverage later this year, I'm done. Of course, that's assuming a tropical system develops and threatens the US.
