Local Forecast / Re: Classic LF Questions
« on: August 01, 2021, 07:40:56 PM »
I saw that a couple times. I thought it's pretty interesting, They also did that to the partly cloudy icons too, (If ur also talking about that) (P.S I'm kal el animations)
I was mostly talking about the "Sunny/Clear" icon, but yeah, "Haze" could use the "Cloudy", "Mostly Cloudy", or the "Partly Cloudy" icon, depending on the sky condition, but it seemed that if it was "Fair with Haze", this was just shown as "Fair", until I saw those clips, since I had never seen "Haze" on an XL use the "Sunny/Clear" or the "Fair" icon before that. If I had seen that years ago, it would stand out in my mind, so they may have just shown that as "Fair" later on.

To anybody reading this who had the WeatherSTAR XL from 1999-2004, do you remember ever seeing Haze on the XL CC screen showing the Sunny/Clear icon? There are a few instances of this on famartin1's videos from July 1999, but I don't recall ever seeing that on an XL before (in person or online), I was wondering if this could be narrated as "Under fair skies with haze.", or if this just says "Under hazy skies.". I have, however, seen at least one 4000 video with Hazy on the CC screen showing the Sunny icon, although the LDL shows Fair. I was also wondering if this was later changed to just show as Fair, or if Fair with Haze was such a rare report (I'm assuming that's the observation as the Trenton station was not human operated).

It's good to hear from you, Ms. Ricks. I just updated one video I have with your original version of "Simple Pleasures" to include said title and your name, and I contacted a bunch of my friends to suggest they do the same thing for you, hopefully, they'll follow through. Also, is there a chance the original "Simple Pleasures", "Summer Rain", and "Nobody's Fool" would ever show up in full length anywhere?

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Weatherscan Topic
« on: June 06, 2021, 09:02:56 AM »
Are there any videos of "Weatherscan" displaying 2 "WEATHER BULLETIN" screens? I keep thinking there was one somewhere awhile back, but I wouldn't have any idea how to find it again, if it still exists.

General Discussion / Question about the 1998-2006 icons
« on: March 08, 2021, 11:15:51 PM »
Is it possible to access the nighttime icons from the 1998-2006 set, but in the March 2002-December 2006 form as well as the "WINDY" icon with the letters more squiggly rather than straight without getting them from an actual STAR (which would be illegal to distribute)? TWCZach had a weather site way back in the day, and the icons could be accessed (including the aforementioned nighttime icons and the "WINDY" icon), but that's been gone for many years. I'd appreciate any help from anybody on this.

I'm going to bring this topic back to life again, are we 100% sure the XL received the first set of new flavors with the introduction of the "Daypart Forecast" and "The Week Ahead" products in March 2002? Because this clip from Friday, March 29, 2002 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFVy1oQJ6Lg still shows the old flavors, and I can remember years ago on Yahoo!, seeing a "New York City" XL from Saturday, March 30, 2002 on the "Regional Forecast" map with the LDL on the "HUMIDITY" and "DEW POINT" section, meaning that XL was still running the old flavors. I don't know if the missing date and time on the LFs as well as "Saturday Forecast" suddenly becoming "Friday Forecast" after the transition in is any relation or not, but have we been wrong about the first set of flavor changes coming in March 2002 all these years, or did at least 2 XLs out there miss getting the update right away?

I'm going to bring this little topic of mine back to life. On the IntelliStar, what exactly was regularly enough precipitation for the "Local Radar" to show? For example, on this newly-posted video https://twcclassics.com/watch.php?file=struttin-benoit-freeman, there's barely anything in the area, and the "Local Radar" was shown, but I've seen more precipitation in an area than that (both online and in person) and the "Local Radar" was not shown. I do know that the IS 2s are different in that their "Local Radar" products will only show if there's at least a 20% chance of precipitation within the next hour, regardless if there's actually precipitation in the area or not.

Not sure if accidental or not, but I can definitely explain why the fonts on that map are still in Akko. This product was only shown once on a random I2 in 2015 (which I have attached a screenshot of below). The reason this product is in Akko is most likely because TWC did not intend to update this product to have the new Roboto font and was most likely going to sit unused until it made its way to our I2s yesterday.
I wonder who posted that picture? I presume there's no video anywhere, but I have to wonder how long that IS2 showed the map. It says "Tomorrow's Forecast" and the time on the paused DVR shows 1:18p with the program being "Highway Thru Hell", so that had to have been on a weekend, but I keep wondering if it showed that instead of a "TOMORROW" text forecast, or in addition to the 3 text forecasts, or if it even showed "Today", "Tonight", and "Tomorrow" on maps instead of text. I'm guessing this was also a glitch, though it wasn't a nationwide glitch, as I know mine in "Saint Louis" didn't show those maps anytime back then. It makes me wonder if the WATT IS2s have multiple flavors built in to show forecast maps for different periods, but only the one without the maps is supposed to be used, with ones with the maps being accidently used on this one IS2 back in 2015, plus nationwide this past May. There's also a "Now" map built in, but was never used once, not even by accident, at least to my knowledge.

Here's another question, how do 2 "Weather Bulletin" screens affect the 1 minute flavor on the pre-WATT IS2? A normal 1 minute flavor went like this;
"Now", "Regional Doppler", "Radar/Satellite" (the "Metro Doppler" automatically overrode it when needed no matter what else was showing), "Local Forecast", "The Week Ahead". If there was 1 "Weather Bulletin" screen, all those products mentioned squeezed in afterward with shorter durations, but I can't imagine they could with 2 screens, especially since that's what the 90 second flavor looked like with 2 "Weather Bulletin" screens showing. Do you have any idea what an old IS2 1 minute flavor with 2 "Weather Bulletin" screens would look like?

The I2 (and presumably also I1) will only display 3 alerts at most on the LF. It will not show more than whatever fits on that one alert page.
The pre-WATT I1 and I2 did display 2 "ALERTS" screens when needed (the I2 would always fit 3 on one screen, while the I1 would only fit 2 on one screen, unless only one line was needed for one of the alerts). Are you for certain that it won't show a second page for 4 or more alerts?

While it is true that the Pre-WATT LFs did have more than one page for alerts on both I1 and I2, the same cannot be said for the WATT LFs. I’m 100% sure I2 (and I1) only show one page for alerts (sadly).
Where you under more than 3 alerts at some point, and only saw one page with 3?

Here's something I've wondered about since "Weather All the Time" launched in November 2013, 3 alerts can fit on one "ALERTS" page, but if there are 4 alerts, could that many squeeze in in 1 page or would it expand to a second page? If it would expand to a second page, and the "Metro Radar" is showing, how would the LF lineup be affected? Would it skip the 7 day, or only show 1 descriptive forecast? The latter was normal if the "ALERTS" and "Metro Radar" were both showing when they had the "Summary" screen prior to October 2014, so back then, would it have been possible to have the "Metro Radar" jump right to the 7 day with 2 "ALERTS" screens and "Metro Radar" or show only 1 descriptive forecast, then the "Summary"(if 4 or more alerts don't fit on 1 screen)?

Programming and Graphics / Re: AMHQ Early Cannned????

Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not, but I heard this morning that beginning on Monday, June 22, AMHQ will now air from 6-10am et. Not sure if this applies to the weekends or not, nor do I know how the other shows will be affected.

Would it be possible to get the simulator to run on a continuous loop on some website without always running on my PC? I'm interested in running it continuously, just like a real "Weatherscan", but it wouldn't be good for my PC to never turn it off at some point.

Does anybody recognize the music in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z50k3hEnGk I wasn't the one who posted that, but whoever this is says it played from 2004-2007, but it doesn't sound like anything I've heard, so now I'm wondering myself what song that person's playing on that video.
